George's Story

After high school, I joined the US Navy. Ended up becoming a medic (corpsman) going to California, and then to the south pacific where I served at a USN hospital caring for the wounded evacuated from Viet Nam. After getting honorably discharged I came home, got married in 1970, and went to work as a sales rep. Now don't get bummed out by what I'm about to say, but I swear to you and before God this is the truth, as a young newly wed couple we were coming home one night from visiting my parents, it was raining, snowing, icy...a horrid night for travel...we were moving along a road outside of Rancocas New Jersey and ahead was a left hand 90 deg. turn through a railroad tunnel. Suddenly a voice said to me, "stop the car now." I turned to my wife and she was looking at me with a puzzled look on her face. I asked her if she had heard anything, and she said yes, "someone just said to stop the car." Just then the voice spoke again, very loudly, "I SAID STOP THE CAR NOW !" We both heard it, I stood on the brakes, just then as we stopped at the edge of the tunnel, a drunk driver came racing through the tunnel and crashed onto the embankment in front of our car. A few seconds later, if I had not stood on the brakes, we would have been where he crashed, and possibly would have been killed or crippled. Do we believe in guardian angels? You better believe we do. I relate this story since it created such a significant impression on our lives. In 1980 since most all my sales territory and work was in Pa., we moved here, leaving the crowded areas behind. Meanwhile we had no children, but after our move here, we found ourselves expecting, and our son was born in January of 1981, followed by our daug...Expand for more
hter in Dec. of 1984. The absolute astounding thing that has happened recently for me (I was an adopted child), was when a private investigator called me and I found out I had a brother and indeed an entire extended family. I got to meet my birth mother before her death 30 days after seeing me...the family seems to feel she waited for my brother to find me and bring me to her before she passed on...she had been very ill, and my brother told me he promised her he'd try and find me and bring me to her and keep that promise he did. As for me, I`ve always loved watches...both pocket and wrists. Has become a hobby and have even taught myself to do rudimentary repairs and cleaning and servicing of antique pocket watches. Great relaxation! In my full-time job I`m a purchasing agent with a construction and mining operation here in Northeast Pennsylvania, and as a hobby I sell excellent quality for the dollar watches and other items on internet auction sites. I also love exploring antique shops, flea markets, and yard sales on occasion... always looking for the unusual. I'm also a history buff. Our household has an additional variety of residents...two cats (Leo and Cleo)...Tiny Littlefellow (our Chihuahua...who thinks he's a cat...he even uses his own litterbox!) and one very large aquatic Red Eared turtle. Actually most of these pets belong to the kids...we just sort of "inherited" them (with the exception of Tiny who my wife and I call "the baby"). It's a lot of work keeping them healthy, fed, and paying attention to them, but it's time well spent. For a little extra fun and relaxation I like very early Sunday morning rides on my motorcycle, a picture of which I have posted on classmates.
