George's Story

Life After high school I had 9 yrs of military service. I worked for and retired from New York Telephone after 30 years there. I moved back to North Carolina after retiring in 99. I'm married with one daughter. I spend most of my time talking to friends across this country and around the world by Ham Radio. I got involved with radio communications in the military and have been loving it every since. Workplace I entered high school at Phillips high school and stayed there for one year. I then moved back to Robersonville,NC where I went to East End High and graduated from. Which school did I like best? East End had some very good kids and teachers there but I'll have to say that Phillips was my favorite. I had some very good friends there and I really like being in the band. Mr Wooten was the man. I still remember his name because his wife taught at East End. One of my greatest suprises and joys of that time was after moving back to Robersonville, a few months later, Phillips band came to Robersonville and performed in our annual parade and I got to see most of my Phillips friends again. Unfortunately, that was my last time seeing most of them. I did see Clyde Sykes and Charles Hill agai...Expand for more
n in NYC in the early 70s. I still see some of my East End Friends rather often though. Some of them taught school here in NC and are retired and some of us retired and moved back home from other places. We manage to get together sometimes and talk about the old days. Most of the time now, you can catch me and my ex classmate and friend Richard Parker on our radios doing worldwide communications. Richard have been an amateur radio operator almost since high school and he talked me into getting my license a couple of years ago and I'm hooked. Do I miss NYC? Nope. I've just about readjusted to the laid back life again and I'm enjoying it. Bye all. Military A few days after high school I enlisted in the Army and stayed in for a total of 9 years working in communications. After leaving the Army I moved to NYC and worked for NY Telephone, now Verizon, until retirement. After retiring, I move back to North Carolina, and presently still live there. It's kind of quiet here in NC but I've gotten kind of used to it. Being a licensed Amateur Radio operator I spend lots of my free time making contacts around the globe.I am married and have one daughter, a student at Winston Salem State U.
