George's Story

Apres Byng, I attended UBC. I stayed fairly active in the local sports scene until an injury in football ended that era in my life. I eventually graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce from UBC in Marketing and Finance. I started my career as an accountant / controller as a "short term" job with the intentions of going into business for myself. Ten years later, I woke up in a hotel room in Edmonton at 6 AM, its 35 below outside, getting ready to hop another plane (still a controller for the same company) when I looked in the mirror and said "I'm not an accountant, what I am doing here!" This epiphany caused me to go back to school and re-educate myself in software which was to be my life's calling - albeit not in my own business. ormative years in sports from Byng. From accountant to sales executive - hows that for irony? I still live in Vancouver and have recently moved back to Kits where I have happily downsized. I travel quite a bit for work - mostly in the US. As many of you know, I came to Byng in grade 8 from the US. And I can say categorically that Vancouver is certainly one of best places to live in North America. We have our problems like all places do but I appreciate living in such a great city every day! With another birthday just behind me, I am starting to feel my age and thought it was time to reconnect with people from my past. Does anybody else feel that way? While I still feel like a young man caught in an older man's body, the fact is that I can't keep telling people that I am 39 years old forever - at least not with a straight face... The "land of denial" can be a wondrous place indeed! Anyway, I would like to start to reconnect with our old high school class. Please feel free to contact me and lets catch up. cheers, george
