George (Ronny)'s Story
Golden Years
Well, it is very hard to believe that I will be 72 ( October, 30), although I do not feel like a 72-year-old until those times that my body betrays me. I once read that time seemingly goes by much faster when you are busy doing the mundane tasks required by everyday living, while time seems to slow down when you pursue big experiences and consequently big memories.
Some of my latest big memories are a river boat cruise along the Rhine and an excursion into the Swiss Alps in 2018 and a trip to see Machu Picchu and the Amazon River in 2019, these events now seem so long ago. This year I took a father/son trip to see the Grand Canyon. Of course, one of my most important memories was the birth of my granddaughter, who is now a young lady - time really slows down between her visits. My son lives in Alpharetta, GA and my granddaughter lives in Charleston, SC. Oh, well.

n the eastern shore of Mobile Bay. Why Fairhope? Fairhope is a small, beautiful city with many artists’ co-ops and it hosts art and film festivals and has live theater. (The 2020 art festival and theater productions were cancelled due to COVID-19.) There are many medical providers associated with a nearby hospital, all very important to senior citizens like us. We also boat, fish, volunteer at a local food bank and especially enjoy entertaining visitors.
I am currently restoring a 1966 MGB but modifying it with a Chevy V6 and 5-speed transmission. I taught myself how to weld, thanks to the videos on YouTube. I now wish I had taken more shop classes back at Terry Parker.
I hope Carolyn (Bennett) Edwards, et al, have the energy and time to put together a 55th reunion in 2022. I certainly appreciate what they have done for us, all these past years. Also, I hope that this communication finds you, the reader, healthy and content.
