Georgia's Story

(Info on my Freshman and Sophomore years follows this info.) I moved to San Lorenzo, California in my Jr. year and was very unhappy about it. The school in California had over 365 students in the Jr. class. There were 3 swimming pools and 2 gymnasiums. My Indiana High School was very small and only one building. SLz was "Too big" for a little girl from the midwest. We did not change rooms but changed buildings and I had a very hard time. All clicks were formed and the only friends I had were boys and that made it even worse for me. A long 2 years till graduation. I took a Civil Service test in my senior yr. and passed #1 in the County and began working for Juvenile Probation. (Not good for a midwest girl). I went from there to Adult Probation and Sheriff's Dept. I got my Real Estate license in 1966. I have been everything from a title officer/escrow officer, Broker, Mortgage Broker, Real Estate Paralegal, Loan Underwriter, Licensed Real Estate Appraiser, etc. I also have raised exotic animals, show dogs, exotic birds, etc. Worked with Boston Children Institute and Washington Hospital on relating diseases with dogs to diseases with small children from tracing family histories. I have had many occupations and have been attending school or classes of one kind of another since leaving school. I write poetry and am getting ready to send in my first manuscript. I have had a few poems published. I have mostly lived in California but lived in Las Vegas for a while. I've traveled around the world since my husband works for United Airlines and we have travel privileges. He retires in June and we will spend more time traveling and doing house projects. I wish I was young again and had the knowledge I have now. I would have done a lot of things differently. It's been a long life and after the disappointments, I only want to remember the good things now. There were a lot of them. My boyfriend in HS was Tim Harris. He and Paul Harkness were buddies and always together. I attended the Jr. Prom and Sr. Ball with Tim. We lost track once he started SJ State. I married in 1965 and had one child named Gina. I attended the 5, 15, 25, 35, 40 yr reunions. I missed the 10 and 45. In Aurora, My mother owned a restaurant named the Wagon Wheel and I worked there every day. We had a special burger called the "Wagon Wheel" and a special sauce that I still have. It was served with fries and a large coke for 50 cents. There are no longer any deals like that even at "In & Out Burger". This is a part of the reason I love to cook. No recipes for me, as I cook from the heart and just throw in what sounds good and it usually turns out very good. Have had a few mishaps, but to be expected when you experiment. I was at Aurora HS in Indiana for my Freshman and Sophomore years. I had a crush on Larry Lynn until he graduated in 1960 and went into the Marines in 29 Palms, California. I always enjoyed the Farmer's Fair in October. In my sophomore year I dated Danny Landwehr and attended the Jr. Pro...Expand for more
m with him. I remember a few of the friends now listed in Classmates from Aurora HS. The people I remember were George Fuchs, his mother was the secretary in the office at the school and she was often seen with the principal. In 1966 I saw him in Monterey, Ca. on the 17 mile drive and he was with his wife. I had a crush on George Fuchs also but he did not give me the time of day. When I asked Jake Porter to the Sadie Hawkins dance he had already accepted a date with Carol Gabbard, a straight A student with red hair and freckles. I liked her because she had more freckles than me. Cheryl Crontz pushed me up the stairs one day after lunch and I fell and had to have my head sewn up. I went to Dr. Baker (who had a son Jon that I also dated in my freshman year for a short while). Cheryl's mom was his nurse and I did not tell the truth about Cheryl pushing me and making me fall because I was afraid Cheryl would get mad at me. She was a cheerleader and very popular. I remember Terry Trester and Carl Franklin who went to the Baptist Church with me. I also had a crush on Terry for a long time. I also heard he was killed in an auto accident at a very young age. My first real date was with Bucky Gabbard (Carol's Brother). We went to see Butterfield 8 and then to Frisch's Big Burger and Red Bridge!! I only ordered a coke. He took me out to Red Bridge and I was very scared as he kept trying to take my coat off. I finally said it was time for me to go home. I never had another date with him. I also heard that he got into a fight with his dad and killed him. Donna Hammer was my best friend, and she was very good to me in school. I was a rather poor girl since my dad had died and my mom had a hard time running the restaurant profitably. We had very little and I always appreciated how kind she and her mother were to me. I remember her mom used to make candy from Noodles and potatoes. I thought she was a genius to be able to do this. Donna was dating Bill Bateman who lived across the street from her. My grandmother was his mom's foster mother. They always had me over even when they were together. Donna and I took her mom's car out one night and got pulled over by the cops because she had forgotten to turn on the headlights. Most of the friends I really remember are no longer around. I would like to know more about them but can't get any info on them since they don't even show up in Classmates.I remember Cheryl Crontz and Wanda Leffler came to my going away party when I left to California. I now lay by my pool and swing in the swing listening to good R & R music, write poetry and have a glass of wine remembering all the good times and old friends from the past. I love spending time with my family and especially the grandkids. Through all the good and the bad, Life is Good ! ! ! But very short....I learned a lot from my daughter who is the most caring individual I know. She is always there to help and pray for a stranger. She is one of my biggest prides along with her children....
