Georgia's Story

Life I have had my own business: songwriter, poet, writer of books and greeting cards. I married my HS sweetheart after graduation. We were together for 25 years, until his antics just were not to be borne. We had two children, a daughter and a son, both wonderful people and both geniuses. I eventually married again. I ran my second husband's trucking company-did all the tax and attorney and office work. I also worked for GTE for 25 years. My second husband brought a group of his own children to the marriage. Over time we managed to acquire some grandchildren. I have two granddaughters, courtesy of my son, and 3 step grandchildren, courtesy of one of my 2nd husband's daughters. I love to travel and I have been every place I wanted to go yet not every place I'd like to see. I still lack seven US states and want to complete the journey: IN, KY,TN,NO and SO Carolina, N Dakota, and Alabama. I love England. Only 911 stopped me from the second journey, which was to depart 9-12. Scotland and Ireland were heavenly. Hawaii feels like a second home. I have been to all the islands. We had a vacation home on Kauai for several years and my 2nd husband and I had a renewal of vows ceremony in a lovely Hawaiian manner with a Hawaiian minister in one of the spiritual caves on Kauai. My 2nd husband died on Valentine's Day 1999 after a long illness. He was buried at sea off Waikiki in a Hawaiian ceremony. Since my husband died many things have happened. I've had to start over, move, meet new people, go back to work, go back to school. I finally finished my AA in 1998, after 36 years of taking classes in my spare time. Graduation was 2 months after my mother died at 92 1/2. I had a "bucket list" before I knew what one was. I thought if I finished it I would die. Nope. Completed four. I have finally started another one- completing projects for my children and grandchildren, going to see the new Diagon Alley at Universal in Florida-BIG Harry Potter fan. HUGE Had I the ability to go back I would definitely have taken typing and Spanish in school, and quantum theory--fascinating stuff. At the time I didn't think I was smart enough to understand. Ha! ouldn't have been that bad. I have studied religion and philosophy, psychology, and paranormal happenings. In fact, I dare say I have seen more paranormal happenings than anyone being paid to talk about it. I took "early retirement" at 55, took care of my mom and husband for 3 years-until their deaths. I worked in business for another 2 years- then decided to leave the business world and go into a field that I had been unofficially working in for many years--health care. Working as a companion to people in their homes was rewarding, albeit hard on the body and emotions. I finally retired for good in 2011. Thank God. I had to give up my car and cell phone and anything else that supported a work effort but I haven't missed anything. I now live with my daughter, have a lovely garden, friends, enjoy my children and grandchildren and life. Every day is a blessing. When I was in school I basically looked straight ahead--getting through one day at a time. Way too serious. Yet, there were people who touched my life, people who seemed interesting and destined for greatness. I eventually came to Classmates to see what happened to them. But they're not here, some of them. I wish I could find out what happened to them and where they are in life now. One of my school chums, whom I reconnected with through Classmates - 40 years after graduating (makes Classmates worthwhile), James Reno, died May 10, 2013. We were able to attend the 50th SBHS HS Reunion in 2012. A milestone for both of us. Jim was a good friend. I miss him. One of the people I met at the reunion was Sherman Abe. I have to laugh. I don't think he realized how just being alive affected so many people. He was mobbed. Couldn't turn around without someone trying to talk with him. Dolores Farner, a friend since grade school greeted me like she really had missed me all these years. Bless her heart. Others as well. I am so glad I was able to attend. Some people think it is no big deal, a 50th school reunion. But it is. A rite of passage. If these be my waning years, let the good times continue to roll. I may be down at times, but I'm not OUT.
