Gerald's Story
After graduating from BHS, I went to and graduated from Cal Berkeley with a degree in Criminology. After Cal I volunteered for the US Air Force and became an officer in 1966. I made the AF a career and retired after 20 years as a Lieutenant Colonel in the security police career fieId. I was stationed all over the USA and world, to include Canada, Germany and Viet Nam. I met my wife while stationed in Germany; she is a German-American who was working as a secretary for the US Air Force HQ there. We have been married for 48 years. While stationed in Texas (San Antonio), we adopted two children, a boy and girl. Our son passed away tragically at age 25. Our daughter graduated with a law degree from Florida State University; She got married in May 2008 and gave birth to a girl in May '09, a boy in May 2011 and another girl in Jan 2013. sk them if we could anyway! After retiring from the AF, I worked as a security manager (classified gov't contracts) with Harris Corporation in Melbourne, Florida, for 21 years and retired from Harris in September 2007. We have lived in Florida for 37 years (‘86-‘23) with family and many friends still in the San Francisco bay area. We have returned to Berkeley many times over the years primarily to see my mother, who passed away in June 2015 at age 100, and my older brother and many other relatives and friends. We love living in Florida in spite of the threat of hurricanes; but being close to our grandkids and DisneyWorld, Universal, SeaWorld, etc. and cruise ship lines and watching the rockets go up live from Kennedy Space Center from our driveway makes it all worth it. We go to the DisneyWorld area several times a year just to "get away." We also enjoy going out to our favorite restaurants, pubs and fun places a lot. Retirement is fine, and we seem to be doing OK with our health and aging. But our grandkids, of course, come first.
