Geri's Story
Life
Grew up in S. Philly- a loner. Spent pretty much all of my childhood searching for something to do, looking for answers. Left Philly in 1978 to join the Navy- which I loved. Because of an injury, I was forced out of the Navy in 1983.
Married, 1982- Husband: Ben.
2 Children: Veronica & Mike.
College: Christopher Newport University- 1988-1991 B.S. Accounting
Living in North Atlanta since 1995. It's not S. Philly! (Darn it!)
Accountant/Tax-Financial Analyst.
Would enjoy hearing from somebody.
School
I didn't take it seriously, but what kid does? I wish I had developed more/better relationships (Most kids never knew I existed), wasted less time goofing off, and I wish I had studied harder.
College
College was boring (socially) mostly due to the vast difference in my age when compared to the age of the average student. Most of the classes were a waste of time & money (like history, english, art). I was somewhat success...Expand for more
ful, getting my degree in less than the normal 4 years. But had I been smart, I would have gone straight through until I earned my masters, since trying to do it now is a struggle.
Workplace
When I first started out I was much too naive and shy. It wasn't easy. Had I been more assertive at work + home, I'd be far more successful+ self-assured today. Most of my job choices were BIG, BIG mistakes - I would have been better off looking more before accepting a position where I hated to get up in the morning to go to work. But I feel blessed with my current job, and pray it goes on until I can't do it anymore.
Military
I wish I was still active duty. What I did, and why I was I doing it actually made a difference, and for the first and only time in my life, I felt accepted and acceptable. I miss it terribly. But just as in the days of high school, I was too hard-headed and stupid to realize at the time that those were the best days of my life.
