Geri's Story
Well, let's see... I'm a married mother of 3. I've been in Public Health with CDC since 1991, living and traveling mostly in the SE US.
I used to be an over-achieving workaholic, but then...(like the words of the Gospel Song in the Color Purple) I got sick and realized that "GOD is trying to tell you something". I'm cancer survivor of 8 years. I had my miracle baby 2 years after treatment. During that trying time I had an epiphany and realized that my work really ISN'T who I am or what defines me. I learned to appreciate and thank God every day for the people in my life. My Grandmother used to say "You aren't guaranteed tomorrow", and for the past few years I've learned to leave work at 5pm, relax and enjoy my family.
My philosophy has changed to "I work for vacation".
My interests are my son's soccer career (grant...Expand for more
ed he's only 13, but he loves soccer), my daughters Girl Scout Troop, and my baby's love of fishing. I have given them all my love of DisneyWorld and the beach--much to my husband's chagrin. I honestly think that he truly enjoys Disney as much as I do, because the only thing he gripes about is that its too much walking... He didn't complain when we went TWICE within 9 months! and all he did was roll his eyes when I told my baby we couldn't go back until he finished Kindergarten. Yep, I think he enjoys it too! When we're not volunteering with soccer, Girl Scouts, or fishing, I love to watch reality tv (Top Chef, Project Runway, Food Network), visit the local library, travel, read, cook, sew, and have even whipped out my knitting needles this past year. My kids are growing up so now I am able to enjoy the things I like to do.
