Gerri's Story

Life After nearly 40 years of working, and at least 7-1/2 more to go before retirement, I decided to take the biggest risk of my life. I quit my job, gave up all benefits, bought a 2004 38' RV with 5 slides (almost 400 sq ft), a 2004 Ford F350 "dually" diesel truck, sold my house and gave everything in it to either children or Goodwill, and hit the road. My husband, 2 yr. old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and I are travelling and "work-camping". Currently, living and working at Club Naples RV Resort in Naples, Florida, am having the time of my life. I'm working as a reservations clerk, for minimum wage, PLUS, a FREE RV site, free water, sewer, electric, and cable TV. What more could you ask for? My husband (who used to work for President Carter heading up his international division) is now cutting grass and doing maintenace. WE LOVE OUR LIFE!!! Our next work assignment will be somewhere in the southwest. We have to work for 2 more years and then we are FREE and CLEAR to continue travelling around this glorious country and hopefully visit all of our friends, no matter where they are. n the horizon is a 4-month jaunt through Alaska (summer of 2006). Since beginning this adventure last summer, I have seen sunrises and sunsets on the Atlantic, the Gulf of Mexico, overlooking the Pacific in Malibu, CA, and the Sea of Cortez in Mexico. Whenever I think about not having health insurance or another 401K (at least I have one)I just think about how short life is and I'm not going to sit and wait for "what ifs". I'm living my dream while I can. My life has had many ups and downs but I have been blessed with 2 children, (two beautiful daughters who are still single!!), FINALLY, married to the love of my life, 3 great step-children, and 4 of the most incredible step-grandchildren any Nanna could ever want. Most of my friends have lost 1 or both of their parents, and I still have both of mine, as well as a huge extended family. By far, my blessings outweigh the negatives in my life. It was fantastic going back to York for the Golden Jubilee and seeing people that I hadn't seen in over 40 years. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at our 40th next June. Hope to see you there!
