Gerri's Story
I was born in the valley (Modesto) and our family moved around a lot before we settled in North Highlands where I started my 9th grade year. I was married for over 50 years to a wonderful man. My husband Elwood (graduated in '64), passed away in 2018. Elwood and I raised two sons in Fair Oaks. We moved there in 1974 and I still live in the same house. I have 3 grandchildren who I adore. I am fortunate that they all live in the Sacramento area and I see them often. Besides being with family, I enjoy reading, taking care of my large yard and am in a book club with 10 fantastic women. We meet monthly and have a blast. I retired from the Sacramento Bee after 32 years. I held a variety of positions...Expand for more
: bookkeeper, advertising sales, advertising training manager and finally advertising recruitment manager. It was a privilege to have been in the newspaper business during its golden years before the internet changed it and many other industries forever. I am enjoying the less stressful life of retirement and love having time to do the things I enjoy.
I love this quote: "There are five things that you cannot recover in life: The stone...after it's thrown, the word...after it's said, the occasion...after it's missed, the time...after it's gone and a person...after they die.".
