Gerry's Story
After high school, I attended San Joaquin Delta Junior College, majoring in mathematics, receiving an AA degree. I planned to become a teacher in high school, teaching trigonometry. Worked while attending college as a reader for history, political science and psychology teachers. Then transferred to Sac State (now California State University, California). Lived in Foley Hall dormitory with a roommate (Faith Arakawa). Married mid-year. Transferred to UC, Davis, graduated with BA in Mathematics. Lived in married student housing. llege. Enjoyed meeting all different kinds of people. Loved the discussions and new ideas. Within a few days of graduation, joined Pacific Telephone & Telegraph (which is now AT&T) as an assistant engineer. Have used my mathematics at various times throughout my career. I took early retirement from AT&T at the end of 2000. Since then I divide my time between family, travel, volunteer work (Library; 1 City 1 Book program for Walnut Creek; Institute for Supply Management-NAPM-Diablo Valley Board) and paid contracts (Cingular; AT&T; Clorox).
