Gilde's Story
Life
Hi, Everyone!
After graduating from high school, I went to George Mason University for a year, then transferred to Ball State University in Indiana where my family was then living. I majored in Political Science and Telecommunications and returned to Washington after college in 1981 to work for a Congressman. After six years as a legislative assistant on Capitol Hill, I headed off to UVA law school in 1987, graduating in 1990. I worked for a private law firm for a year or two and then started working for the Dept. of Health & Human Services as a staff attorney in 1992. I have been working there since then. In January of this year (2007), I was promoted to Administrative Appeals Judge on the Medicare Appeals Council.
While in law school, I met my husband, Doug Morrisson, whom I married in May 1991. He is currently an attorney with the Social Security Administration. We have no kids (by choice!), but lots of nieces, nephews and pets. Doug plays the drums in his free time and, earlier this year, he re...Expand for more
ceived a black belt in Ninjutsu. In my free time, I stay active in various activities at our church and volunteering with teenagers. I also love to sing and still dabble in theatre and dance whenever I can. Doug and I have a boat at Lake Anna, Virginia where we ski, tube, swim, and cruise in the summer.
I am traveling (for pleasure!) more these days than ever before. This past summer I went with the H-B Woodlawn music department to Italy and Austria as a choir chaperone, and I got to sing with 18 of the most awesome kids. We had concerts in cathedrals in Rome, Saltzburg and Vienna. Last year, Doug and I went to Japan for two weeks so he could train with some of the top martial artists in the world. Doug hopes to go back to Japan next year and I hope to get additional opportunities to see Europe. I'd also like for us to drive cross-country (without a rigid agenda) in the next couple of years and just enjoy exploring.
I'd love to hear from you folks out there who knew me in high school, so please write!
