Gilles's Story

May 2, 2017. Getting those issues with high blood pressure, I won't lie, really messed with me. I was scared to push myself and my running took a dive. I got to the point to where a 10k was hard, and I was at about the same as I was when I started. Hated it! Since the beginning of the year, I started to push through a normal training schedule and I have rebounded. I will be running a race this coming weekend, my 26th half marathon and I am confident I will be finishing close to where I was in 2013. I completed a 19k run last Sunday in 1:52 and I did not push to do it since it's a training run. Wish me luck :) June 13, 2015 - after a scare with high blood pressure problems during the training of my 3rd full marathon, I had to dial back the training. I was still determined to complete it regardless of time instead of hitting a personal best, and I did complete it on May 31. Since last up date, I ran 2 more half marathons, 1 in San Diego in March and the other on May 3 right here in St. Albert (RunWild...my race lol). My totals are as follows, 22 half marathons, 3 full marathons and I total of 10,200 kms run to date since 2010. I was looking back at the picture I posted from my first race and wow, did I ever lose more weight since. Other than that, still healthy, happy and going strong. Nov 10 - Ran my 20th half marathon a couple weekes ago and now for the starting of full marathon training. I want to lose the weight I have gained in the last year and run my fastest full ever (under 4 hours). I already registered for #21 and it's on March 8, 2015 in San Diego. Oct 8, 2014 - Ran my 19th half marathon last weekend. One more to go to reach my goal of 20 in 4 years. That race is on Oct 25. After start training for my 3rd full marathon and do a little strength training on my upper body so I can lose the weight I have gained in the last year. These last 4 months have been really hard on my training due to such a busy schedule. This is finally going to be back to normal within the next week or so. May 8, 2014 - Ran my second full marathon on May 4th (May the forth was not with me that day...lol). Weather was terrible, cold (0° - 2°C) windy and wet snow fell the entire time. I did not get my hoped time but still finished with a 4:20:21 which is over 30 minutes faster than my first attempt. Next full might be as soon at August 24th this year. Maybe this one I will get a sub 4 hour full marathon. Feb 07, 2014 Update...Of course, stil lrunning and currently training for 2 races this spring. A half marathon on April 27 and then a full on May 4. I have lofty time goals, one of which should be easier (the half marathon goal is 1:45) but my full is going to be tough. I am hoping for 3:45 but I will be happy with anything under 4 hours. My last race was Rock-N-Roll Las Vegas on Nov 17 and it was so much fun. I didn't beat my last race time, but didn't care either. Put my business back to part time and started working full time for a great company, AMEC. I worked with them before but only for 6 months. I was very fortunate to be able to come back. I have set a new weight goal too that I want to achieve by race day and that will put me at 80lbs lost. That will make the end of trying to lose weight since I will be in the middle of the suggested weight range for my height and age. At this weight I will be the same as I was when I was a teenager...lol. Life is great...hope yours is as well. May 27, 2013 Update...I have now lost a total of 70 lbs and all thanks to weightwatchers and running. My running stats are as fo...Expand for more
llows 10 half marathons, 1 full, logged a total so far of 6500 kms run since 2009 (1900 this year alone already) I have run 4 half marathons this year alone and registered to run the Las Vegas Rock Roll half this November. This will be my first race outside of Canada. Part of me is stil lthe same as when I was in school...love laughter, sensitive, very loving and romantic. The parts that did change (thankfully) is my ability to believe in myself. I have a lot of confidence in what I can do and realised that when I set my sites on something, get out of the way because it will happen. Now if only I can figure out how to retire rich without robbing a bank...lol, just kidding. Did not have good luck on my first marriage but did not let it ruin my belief in marriage. Found the love of my life in Edmonton Alberta in 1996 and we have been happily married since. My favorite thing to say about my wife is she is my soul mate. I always knew there was a reason I kept coming back to Edmonton. Moved here 4 times from Sudbury and met her 1 year after the 4th. We had our first date on Feb 16 after briefly talking to each other twice at a local gym. 3 weeks later asked her to be my wife and 5 months after that married. people thought we were nuts but I always say, when you know it's right, you simple know. We knew. I have been doing the same type of works since I left school. Those who truly knew me, know I used to love to draw and in school, my best classes were art and drafting. I am a career draftsman and been doing that for 33 years. To my knowledge I did influence another person from my childhood into a similar career and she is an architect today. She told me a couple years ago it was because of me she chose the career after we broke up. She said I spoke so passionally about it she felt it was a good fit for her career path. At the time, I did want to be an architect and I guess talked about it all the time. Who knew? My wife and I love to travel. We have been on 8 cruises (3 in Europe) did a tour of Spain and planning our next trip to Panama Canal in the fall of 2012. I have been to China on business twice (that was a culture shock) and hope to go back someday as a tourist. Because of traveling, I decided to learn another language and now I am more or less fluent in Spanish. I wanted to learn Mandarine too, but that is too hard with the little time I have free. Someday I will try to learn it. As I mentioned earlier, to keep fit I started to run after I lost about 40 lbs. Since starting in 2009 I have logged a total of 6500 klms and ran 13 half marathons and a full marathon on May 6 2012. I joke that I am a running Nike billboard...everything I have is Nike, glasses, shoes, clothes, headband, socks and even the gizmo on my iPod that keeps tabs on my mileage and speed (or lack of speed). Still waiting for Nike to start paying me...I may wait a long time so I better not hold my breath. Hope you enjoyed reading my blurb...hope to hear from some of you in the future. My other social networking site are of course the biggest one of all and I am under my changed name of Wylde Parnelle...I guess I failed to tell you all that I legally changed my name in 1996 just before meeting my wife...that itself is another story. But, don't worry, not running from the law or anything like that, more of a required step to change my life directions from hitting the ultimate lows just prior. Remember, I am a survivor and fighter, do what it takes to change for the good or succeed. And boy did it change for the good right after. :)
