Gina's Story
Hi there classmates here is my story.I was kicked out of Rancho in my senior year by Mr. Pace for leaving campus one too many times,so went on to graduate from Garden Grove High School in 1974.I had been working since I was 14yrs. old at Hoff's Hut Resturant in Belmont Shore where my Dad was general manager,as a form of punishment if I ditched school or got in any trouble.Needless to say I worked every week end.In 1973 my Dad opened his own resturant in westminster called The Jug N'Gavel on Beach Blvd. near the Court House,a few years later he opened Ricabobs Resturant across from Los Alamitos Race Track, where I worked until the late 70's.After high school I moved to Huntington Beach, married a local surfer and in 1979 had my 1st child,a girl named Amy Penfield. In 1984 my only brother's kidneys...Expand for more
failed at the age of 31.I was the only compatible donor for my brother so in 1984 I donated my left kidney to my brother which gave him a second chance at life,I was 29yrs old and he was 31.My kidney saved his life and he was up the next day with my kidney fuctioning in him,it was rewarding and very painful having to be sawed in half as to not puncture my kidney when removed. He lived for 14 years and died when he was 45.He had 3 kids that I got guardianship of months before he died, their mother had abandoned them five years prior. In 1998 I was raising 4 teenagers,my brothers 14yr. old twins,my nephew Dustin Padilla who was 16yrs old and the son of Dan Padilla who was on the football team at Rancho, and my daughter who was 17 and my son who was 7yrs.old.,while managing TANNING SALONS in H.B.
