Gladys's Story
After graduation, I started working days and went to college at night. I worked in an international/political environment - loved it! I married a Cuban and had a son. My husband's company transferred us to Long Beach, CA - which I fell in love with immediately. I retired from what is now Boeing Aircraft where I was in Procurement. My job was great and afforded my travels over half the world. After retirement, when I could, I continued to travel and that and politics were my two great interests. I was very involved in community politics being an appointed official for about 35 yrs. I've now resigned from all that and am now dedicating myself to 'crafts! jewelry making, greeting cards and flower arranging - what a change - buy it's nice, no pressure.

June 1989, I has just finished working in Shanghai and went up to Beijing to start a vacation. When I got there, I found out that Tiananmen Square had been invaded by the military the night before and the city/country was under military law. I spent the next four days trying to get out of the country and was unable to reach anyone at my company or family members as all communication lines were down. This turned out to be a real test of 'street smarts' and how to use my wits and judgment to get back to safety. There is much more to the story but that is for another day. When I did get back to my office I placed my passport in my safe and refused to take an overseas assignment for a year.
I hope this Classmates program affords me the possibility of reaquainting myself with old classmates and learning their stories.
