Glen's Story
Life
Well, life's been interesting, and it just keeps getting better!
I moved to Houston, TX in 1976, one year after graduating high school. I entered the THRILLING world of payroll accounting (ugh!).
I married the following year, at 19, and my sons, Jeremy and Nick, were was born in 1978 and 1982. Although their mother and I divorced when Nick was 1 year old, I've been blessed to have maintained a close friendship with their mother, and we split the child-rearing tasks pretty evenly as the boys were growing up. Now that they're grown, the song, "Cat's in the Cradle" sure comes to mind . . . although we all still live in Houston and see each other as often as our mutually busy schedules will allow. I'm lucky to have a great relationship with each of them. More recently, I have the added joy of two beautiful grandchildren, Chloe, (b. August 2006) and Zachary (b. August 2007).
Since the boys have been out of the nest, I've found a new passion - working with juvenile offenders. Many of these kids need help so badly, and have never had a strong role model to give them clear direction in their lives. I've been working with these kids on a volunteer...Expand for more
basis for about 4 years through our state juvenile system.
Having spent most of my adult years working in a specialized accounting field (payroll), and having pretty much accomplished all I could have imagined there, I decided that I want to work with these kids (juvenile offenders) full time. So, I decided to go back to college a couple years ago so I can prepare for a "second career." In August 2007, I completed a Masters Degree in Psychology, and in October 2007, I became a licensed marriage and family therapist. I am currently working as a counselor the Juvenile Probation Department of a neighboring county, where I work with juvenile offenders who are on probation and/or in detention. Those of you who remember my high school ambitions may recall that I wanted to become a prison chaplain way back then. Interesting how life sometimes brings us back to where we were meant to be all along!
Please drop me a line if you remember me. Would love to reconnect with some more school buds. Some of my family's still in the Denver area, so I venture up there at least once or twice a year. It would be great to catch up with some of you on these trips.
