Glen's Story

OK, here goes! PERSONAL INFO I grew up in Arlington Heights, IL at 833 N. Forrest Ave. I moved to Schaumburg, when I got married in 1983 and I've been there ever since. From 1971 to 1981, I road raced cars with my brother Alan. We raced Austin Healy Sprites, and Mazda¿s Rotary Engine cars (RX2 & RX7). During this time we collected various championships within the Midwest. Our biggest accomplishment came at the 1980 Daytona 24 Hour Endurance Race. Out of the 65 cars that started the race, we finished 15th overall and fourth in class, beating many of the factory sponsored cars. From 1976 to 1981 I road raced motorcycles. During this time, and after many hours of travel though out the US, many hours of track time and a few crashes, I earned status as a Nationally Ranked Rider. In 1976, to get in shape and to stay in shape for motorcycles racing I started dancing. This is a passion that has not stopped. I¿ve learned the Swing, the Hustle, the Cha-Cha, the Samba, the Merengue, plus more. In 1979, I collaborate with Jennifer Meloney in writing a book called ¿You Can Disco¿, and yes it has an ISBN. In 2005 I started Scuba Diving, I know, always doing the dangerous stuff. I only have about 10 dives in the books right now, however, there is more to come. In 1983 I married Peggy and moved to Schaumburg, Il. We¿re still married, she a real saint to put up with me, and we still live in Schaumburg. My passion for motorcycles has not stopped. Here is a list of a few of my past rides, 1979 Honda CB 750F (first four valve 750), 1985 Honda VFR500 (nice little pocket rocket), 1990 Honda VFR 750F (one sweet ride), 2004 Honda VFR800A4 (to fast for my age, LOL), 2004 Honda ST1300, and my present ride, 2006 Honda GoldWing (a great touring bike and fun to ride). My current daily driver is a 2005 Mazda 3SP, while the wife drives a 2004 Mazda RX8 GT. She is in her second childhood. SCHOOL I went to Windsor School - K-5th grade, then Miner Junior High School 6th - 8th grade - 1967 graduate. I attended my high school freshman year at Prospect High School. I finished out High School at John Hersey, graduating in 1971. I finished my Bachelors Degree, online, in 2001. I actually think I have more hours of schooling with the Army than I do on the civilian side. MILITARY I was in the Army Reserves from 1971 to 1977, retiring as a Sergeant. In 1993 I re-join the Army Reserves as a mechanic in a Military Police unit out of Rosemont IL. In 1994 I transferred to the 5034th Reserves Forces School at Fort Sheridan, IL. During my tenure at 5034th, I received training to be an Instructor and then I trained Soldiers to be mechanics. In 1996, I was transferred to a new training unit at Fort McCoy. From 1996 to 2002 I traveled the Midwest training Soldiers to be mechanic on various types of equipment. In 2002, I received my promotion to Master Sergeant (E8) and was transferred to a Combat Engineering unit as the Senior Maintenan...Expand for more
ce NCO. During this time my main job was to prepare the unit for mobilization. In June of 2003 I received mobilization orders and was transfered to the 406th CSB out of Ann Arbor, MI. In July of 2003 we deployed to Afghanistan for nine months, returning in April 2004. During my deployment I was tasked as the Logistics Task Force S4 NCOIC. Basically stated, if you wanted supplies you had to come through us to get them. I worked with a great crew, CPT Jill Hageman (OIC), SFC Kevin Nagel (Supply SGT), and SSG Jeffrey Nichols (Supply Specialist). Great people I will never forget. In October of 2004, I received mobilization orders, again. This time my work was stateside at Fort McCoy, WI. From Oct 2004 through Nov 2005 I held the position of "Mobilization Unit In-Processing Center NCOIC". Basically, we ran the mobilization platform. Lots of time spent, lots of sleepless night, and putting up with lots of dumbass people. After demobbing, I spent another four months at Fort McCoy training the 88th RSC Liaison personnel about mobilization and de-mobilization. I finally returned to civilian life in April 2006. In August of 2006 I transferred into the Central Medical Area Readiness Support Group, at Fort Sheridan, IL, as the Senior Maintenance NCO. At this point in time, this is my current unit. WORK From 1971 to 1993 I worked in the Automotive Performance industry, building race cars, racing engines and light weight driveline components. From 1971 to 1975 I work for Sun Auto Company building race cars, and maintaining street cars. From 1976 to 1980 I worked for Traylor Engineering, building racing engines. We built everything from four cylinder four valve engines to Top Fuel/Funny Car engines. In 1980 I went to work for Prototype Engineering, building circle track and road racing engines, mostly Chevrolet and Fords. During this time we developed the 9 to 1 compression and V6 short track engines for both Chevrolet and Ford. In 1986 I went to work for Quarter Master Industries (QMI). QMI developed and manufactured lightweight, low inertia driveline products. Our main product line were flywheels and clutches. I worked for QMI, developing new products until my departure in 1993. From 1993 to 1996 I was basically a bum. Helping friends get their business up and running. I also, in 1993, re-join the Army Reserve. In 1996, I went to work for, what was then Ameritech, which is now AT&T. I worked my first four years as a Customer Systems Technician. I then spent two years in engineering, placing fiber and cable in the ground, and designing circuits. After that I spent one year as an Installation & Repair manager, before being transfered to the Major Account Center as a manager. I've spent the last two years as a manager in the Special Services group, managing a crew of technicians. That¿s about it, hope it didn¿t bore you too much. Drop me a note, it¿s always great to here from past acquaintances.
