Glenda's Story
Life
Hi, whoever reads this. I and my family live on a farm in Rainier, Oregon, near the Columbia River and between Astoria and Portland, Oregon. My husband was raised in Boise, Idaho and has travelled all over the world. I have 2 grown children, a nearly 20 yr. old daughter, and I'm raising a 9 yr. old granddaughter. My son John lives in Corvallis, Oregon with his family. My daughter Tara is an artist and teacher and studied in Sienna, Italy, and now lives in St. Charles, Missouri with her family. If you'd like to see a recent picture of me and my 6 mos. grandson, look up the Corvallis Gazette Times, 8/8/05, and we made the front page--that's my 2nd time to make front page with a grandchild. I helped deliver 2 of my grandchildren. School - I went to Sam Houston State on the highest piano performance scholarship and did not finish, then between children, I went to San Jacinto Jr. College, then University of Houston, then when I moved here, I received a B.S. degree in Humanities (music, language arts, social sciences) at Oregon State University, also between children. Profession - teach private piano lessons out of my home and I volunteer at schools. I've written a few things. We visit St. Charles, Missouri often and Maui, Hawaii. My most favorite trip was to Maui, Hawaii a couple of yrs. ago, our family stayed with a Hawaiin family--the mom is a hula dancer in Lahaina, Maui, and teaches hula at the civic center and she has children the ages of my children, it was a great trip. There is a joke about people being late in Maui as the...Expand for more
re is in the south--it's called Maui time. What a trip that we all went to school with Patrick "Buddy" Swayze. I can remember his mom, Patricia Swayze, coming to our home in Houston and having coffee with my mom. Me and my little sister used to take dancing lessons from his mom and Buddy would follow us to the girls' bathroom and come up and pinch our bottoms through our ballet suits. Buddy was so introverted in high school, and I remember him playing football and his injured knee and everybody making fun of him for taking ballet. But, look where he is now! I remember him sitting behind me in Algebra and pulling on my braids and hair and then by explanation say I had a beautiful color of hair. And I had a blind date with his once, and went home with someone else! I can tell all of you, Oregon is beautiful, I look outside any window and see mountains--the wild life is amazing. There's over 150 acres right behind us that we hike in. I've also had to chase off coyotes and cougars in the middle of the night--they're usually after the chickens or goats. The Oregon coast is public and is beautiful + natural, we walk 2 ft. away from wild sea lions and walk over the tide pools. We're not far from the Long Beach peninsula on the Washington Coast and it's equally natural + beautiful and full of character. My most loving and fond and innocent memories are of Alex Voelkel. Although I'd like to stay in touch with old friends, school was really not that pleasant for me, so I'll probably never come to any of the reunions. Bye, Glenda Collier
