Glenda's Story

Hi everyone After highschool, I went to nursing school at St John's College. I have been a nurse now for 33 years and still really love it. I had to put my little palomino horse to sleep in 92 at 30 years old. He was a good friend for many years. I've had numerous dogs and to this day I have 2 rescued dogs. We live in Augusta, Ks. I have been married twice and now have a wonderful boyfriend. I have lived in Arizona, Oklahoma, Maryland and Virginia since I graduated from high school. God has brought me through some devastating things in my life and to Him I am indebted forever. My dad still lives in Winfield and we get together. I always wanted to be a person working with animals when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a perfect idea. As it turns out, they were right. I always wanted to be a person who worked with animals when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a perfect idea. As it turns out, they were right. I always wanted to be a a defender of animals when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a fitting idea. As it turns out, they were on target. Talk with one of my close Christian friends, and they help redirect me. My favorite way to relax is at home usually the only human in the company of my dogs. Their simple needs and way to look at life is humbling. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have a clear idea what is expected of me, plenty of sleep prior to the event, and others who have the same positive general outlook to be able to deal with the day-to-day. I have seen a lot of good things from many people along the way, and so my life as a person would see it now is the result of all those encounters. My pets are now and always have been my obsession. I have had just dogs for quite some time (although I used to have horses too). If I could improve my home, I'd remodel kitchen and add on a pantry. My dream home would be right here because God specially gave me this home.. I have had step kids, and still prefer my fur children. If I won $100 million, I'd give a big chunk of it to a dog rescue in Virginia and a premarin foal rescue in Pennsylvania, then spend the rest on actually my ththe to the church first, then my retirement and helping pay for my mother's assisted living expenses. Yep, I did and met some very interesting people. Did a lot of growing up in those days. Went to school in California to be a vet tech, graduated then couldn't find a job, so went back to nursing school and here I am. I did better in college than high school and it was much more interesting. My current age is 56. When I was 12, I thought that people my age...Expand for more
now would be close to death. I was so completely WRONG!!!! I have more energy than 99% of the people I work with every day, young or old.. Work 2 jobs as a nurse, one is in Wichita and the other is in El Dorado. Actually, I really love my work, it's neat to know you made a difference for a hurting person. My best friend would tell you I'm honest and full of integrity, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as a perfectionist?. Mostly in blue jeans, but after l the Black Friday event after Thanksgiving 2010, I have been catching up (especially when there's a sale). I gave away half the clothes in my closet and am slowly replacing them with nicer things (that I can't wear to the gym) I share my home with Jake and Barney, which I find the most honest relationship I will ever be in!!. I had a doberman Chanti in the 80's and she and I made a killer team in obedience. We earned 192 points or better in every show out of 200. Shw also got highest scoring dog in one show. What a relationship that was!! In 10 years, I hope to be considering retiring in a year or two. I'm going to get there by hard work, keeping healthy and prayer.. My Dad is probably my oldest friend. He has believed in me my whole life. He cancelled his patients once to come to Oklahoma to be with me when I had to put my horse to sleep (after having him for 25 years). I have been able to bounce ideas off of him from my nursing career and he really understands because of his chosen profession. By the way, he's 85, still practices medicine and now he only runs half marathons instead of the 26 mile whole marathon numerous times a year. He practices what he preaches health wise and helps me celebrate when I make better choices for my own health. My first job was at Holloway's restaurand in Winfield, where I got paid very little plus tips to wait tables . What I remember most about it is I got to eat after I was done working and the food was great. We lived in Hawaii 1965-68 and were at Eva beach (known for strong undertoe currents which we didn't know about). I was being taken out to sea and my sister, Diane and my Dad saved me. Also I remember when I went to Trinity Lutheran School, the current school had just been built and our school had been on 8th street, and all of us kids were given several books and the teachers had us bring our books (walking in a long line) from the old library to the new one). I have recently started taking pet photos. I'm sure that's a surprise! Its now 2022 and I retired 2 yrs ago. I now work in dog rescue with a group, Beauties and beasts in Wichita fostering dogs and saving dog lives.
