Glenn's Story
Before graduation, I joined the Naval Reserve and after graduation, I spent 2 years on active duty making 2 trips to the Far East spending much of that time off Vietnam. Within 3 months after returning home, I met my wife Sally at a church weekend retreat. As of last May, we will have been married 47 years. We have 2 daughters and 6 grandchildren.
Over the years, I have held several jobs. One that I enjoyed the most was working as a Corrections Officer at the Jackson County Jail. I was there for 14 years. The last 3 years as a Sergeant. While there, I also served as a union officer in every office, the last 4 years as President of AFSCME Local 1707.
For 5 years, I drove an 18 wheeler, for the first few months going over the road but mostly local. (local is anything that you can get there and back in 11 hours of driving) putting in betw...Expand for more
een 50 and 55 hours a week. I enjoy the open road. Because of some physical restraints, I had to leave the open road and am now driving a shuttle bus for Children's Mercy Hospital and am really enjoying the change. I have been able to meet a lot of really great people.
In November 2000, I traveled to New York City with about 250 others to perform at Carnegie Hall with the Independence Messiah Choir. After 32 years in the choir, I decided it was time to retire.
I am a member of VFW Post 1000 in Independence, past member of the Noland Rd. Lions Club and have been working as an election judge supervisor for the last 20 years.
I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ, Outreach Restoration Branch. I have served in a number of positions over the years in 4 different congregations. The most important being a servant of God to the people.
