Glenn's Story
I have two wonderful sons (Noah Riley [9] and Killian Paul [3]) that I share with my bride to be Kari along with her 3 girls (Age 21 - 30) and four grandchildren (Age 1-4). We currently live in Ohio, near Dayton. My boys are great kids with hearts of gold - for hellions that is. Being their father has been the best experience of my life.
Our Noah is a special needs child and that lead me to a few things I never imagined I would do. I sit on the Parent Advisory Board for Cincinnati Children's Hospital, the Cincinnati Children's Psychiatry Dept Parent Advisory Board, and the Ohio State Advisory Panel for Special Education (SAPEC).
After undergraduate and graduate school (chemistry), I found out that being a fire fighter was a whole lot more fun than being a chemist. After all, fire fighters get to do all the things mom wouldn't let us do - cuss, get dirty, and break other people's stuff. 100 Watts of woo-woo is kinda cool too.
I started on a small fire department in Illinois while in graduate school, ended up working part time at the Illinois fire academy, and then took a job at the University of ...Expand for more
Missouri Fire Training Institute (the fire academy)where I was a program manager. While in Missouri, I had the privilege of belonging to Missouri Task Force One, an urban search and rescue team funded by FEMA. We were first up on 9-11. I served at the World Trade Center from 11 Sep to 21 Sep that year. It was the longest day of my life, and while I would NEVER want to repeat it, I was glad I was able to serve there.
I also did a short stint at a power plant as the senior environmental and safety engineer.
Fate brought me to Ohio where I am the Deputy Chief of Operations for a suburban Dayton (OH) fire/ems department. I chair a National Fire Protection Association Technical Committee on chemical protective clothing, and serve as the vice chair of the federal Interagency Board (WMD/all hazards interoperability group).
I like to kick back (when I can) with my boys and wonderful wife to be (Kari). Swimming/stomping in the creek, checking out the birds in the woods near the house, walking the neighborhood and hitting the town pool. I also hit the gym pretty regular.
Life is busy, fun and good.
