Gloria's Story

Life Great memories from BHS. Married and moved to Chatt. for 10 years, then transferred to Rogersville in 74 and have lived here since. I have three grown children, two grandchildren. Married again in 86 and widowed six years ago. Employed and retired from Rog. City School as a visual motor therapist and just enjoy life since then. I enjoy seeing classmates on Friday mornings at Harr's S.S. Love to travel and enjoy life. Interested in history, maybe due to Mrs. Somich. Just returned from a Caribbean cruise and loved seeing the Mayan ruins and the culture of the different islands. I have one son and two daughters and two grandchildren. One of my daughters is a Nurse Practioner and the other is a dental hygienist. My son lived in New Orleans for 16 years and was in a bad accident. I moved to NO and then we evacuated with Katrina. Two months in NO was enough for me. Different from E. Tn. Would like to hear from some old friends. P.S. Have enjoyed having breakfast at Harr's S.S. on Friday mornings. It's great seeing classmates that I haven't seen in many years. I must admit that some of us have changed just a little. Get out your annual before you come and refresh your memory. I always wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, they were right. I always wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, they were right. I very seldom blow off steam. Am very happy and take Zoloft. Shopping, especially antique shops, painting, working with my hands on manyprojects. Right now I am into Wool Needle Felting and will be doing two craft shows in October. When Roma, Becky and Iwere majorettes and cheerleader, we left school at lunch in the back of Sydney Jackson pick-up truck. We went to the S & J and had a hamburger several times. We were caught and placed on probation. Roma was no longer a cheerleader and it didnd't effect Becky and I since we were not marching at that time. Becky and I were reinstated when Mr. Pino took us to Mr. Paul and he told us we were good girls and knew he wouldn't have any more problems. He had sent my parents a letter telling them what happened. My parents both worked and had not gotten the mail. Roma called and told me about the letter and said to get that letter out of the box because my Mother would ground me foryears. I did that and presented it to my Mother the night of graduation. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have coffee break, enjoyable work, and fullfilment to be able to deal with the day-to-day. Of course, God is the one that I look to and rely on daily. My Grandfather was a great inspiration in my life. When I was three months old, my Dad was called into Army during WW11 and my Mother and I moved to Livingston, Tn. wo live with my grandparents for the next three years. My Grandfather was a cabinet maker and built furniture. My Dad was also trying new projects throughout his life. I am never bored because I always have a new project that I am wanting to try next. I was born in Kingsport, moved to Livingston, Tn. with my Mother when my Dad went into WW2/ Back to Kingsport when I was three until 1964 after being married a couple of years,my husband, George Horton, went to work for Tenness Wildlife Resources in Chattanooga. I had to leave my job at Eastman and lived there for 10 years. There is where my family began. Three children inl ess that three years. In 1974, we moved to Rogersville and have resided here since then. Love this town. The one person from my past who I'd most l...Expand for more
ike to see again is Pete Pino, because he was a great person and band director. I was one of the eight graduating seniors in the first band and also one of the first majorettes. Thanks Mr. Pino.. Lady Vols, Grandsons sports, Boston Terrier that passed away and now have a solid black cat, "Oprah Michelle" who was dropped off at our house. Going through a divorce after 24 years of marriage. It was a terrible time for all of us. Later, I remarried and had a wonderful husband who not only loved me dearly, but took in teenagers asnd raised as his own. He acquired Alzheimers for about eight years before his pasing. The biggest surprize is that through all the trials, life has been good for me. I always found the strength I needed and was able to cope with all these problems. If I could improve my home, I'd remodel put down hardwood floors and add on a deck hanging out over my high back bank.. My dream home would be lots of storage.. Patience. Be in their lives and try to know what is going on. Life can be fun. I've also learned that each one is very different and try to raise them as indivituals and encourage their dreams and aspirations I would like to see Mrs. Somich because she gave me my love for history and Mrs. Jordan, who inspired me to be the best typist I could be. It worked. If I won $100 million, I'd give my portion of it to my church, then spend the rest on travel, travel and Snckers bar.. I guess that question will just remain in my heart. My current age is 69. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be old, wear funny shoes, dresses and smell like perfume.. I was so completely wrong. I did put my bikini away a few years ago.. I work hard grubbing, craft projects, taking care of grandchildren. My life is very much fulfilled I'll always love my first crush!!!! End of story. Not much has changed. Maybe gone up a dress size or two. My daughters think I'm always "styling" Working with a court ordered juvenile who was proud to be a "punk", his description. I was his therapist in Visual Motor Instruction. In the end, his personality had changed and he felt better about himself and working hard iin school. He took off his leather jacket, jewelry and piercings and I hope, realized that it was his inner appearance that mattered. I share my home with my daughter and Oprah, the cat, which I find wonderful.. Got a plaque once at the State OES for the :Best Idea" award and then a trophy for being cheerleader sponsor. In 10 years, I hope to be in St. Petersburg, Russia. I'm going to get there by plane and boat. Roma Campbell is my oldeest friend and still the "best". We started in 1st grade together at Sunnyside and went all throug school together and have remained best friends all these years. That through my eyes I still look the same, but most of them have to wear a name tag for me to recognize. Ha. My first job was at Eastman, where I got paid $360 mo. to be secretary. What I remember most about it is Wearing real high heels to walk to my office. Dressed like a lady.. When we lived with my Grandparents, my Grandad would carry me down the cold stone steps and sit at the bottom where a little creek ran by. He would tell me stories about "Cat0Fires" and "Walk-up-the-Creeks". He would draw these creatures for all of the grandchildren. Many years later, I realized they were just tree frogs, crickets and all the animal sounds of the night. I hope they will always remember me as being kind and a friend to all. When I was going through my old annual, I found where someone had written about my "quiet personality. That's the biggest change in my life.
