Gloria's Story

Where to start? Happily divorced for many more years than married. Worked in the magazine distribution industry for 34 years, after quiting a wonderful job at SSA. One of my life regrets. However, my lifetime career allowed me to travel and not have an office or boss looking over my shouder. If I wanted to start at 10 and finish at 6, then that's what I did. Couldn't do that at SSA! Retired for going on two years. Live in TN since '91 and wouldn't live anywhere else (unless it was one of the warmer states). And that may eventually happen! (Update, now live in Murrells Inlet, SC. Got 3 beautiful beaches to go to,and it's about 30 miles south of Myrtle Beach). Do miss the hills of Tennessee and the people! Never had children which gave me the opportunity to spoil my nieces rotten. We got to do all the fun things that Mom & Dad couldn't afford. Currently spending my time remodeling my home, traveling, and volunteer work. Life is wonderful! I always wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a rot...Expand for more
ten idea. As it turns out, they were right. My hero was my mom. She was one of the original single parents, and raised her children to know right from wrong, and dealt out the consequences when we chose the wrong! She raised three children on $45 a week (in the 50's) and we never did without. If I won $100 million, I'd give 50% of it to charity, then spend the rest on family, friends and myself. What do I do differently? Go to college!!! My oldest friend was Lynn Hale. We met in a local church and went thru Junior High and High School together. She was outgoing and funny, and I was shy, so without her I probably would not have had such a great time in school. Lynn passed away several years ago from breast cancer. I still miss her. Favorite chilhood memory was getting inside these big old tires and having one of the 'gang' stand it up and away I'de go flying down the hill. 2nd favorite was sliding down these big old sand hills in the back of our house in Lakeland. Our mom had to buy an Electrolux VC because of all the sand we tracked in!
