Gloria's Story
After HS graduation, I attended UW-Milwaukee 1972-1976, graduating with a BS-Nursing. In 8/1976 I married Kevin, whom I met in college., then worked as an RN at the Milwaukee Health Dept (MHD) until 1989; providing home-, ,school-, & clinic-healthcare for 7 years, STD Clinic for 2 years, then was the Lead Poisoning Prevention Program coordinator for 3 years. We were blessed with a son in 1982 & a daughter in 1987. I then took a position with the teen-tot program with the Medical College of Wisconsin from 1989-1996; & during this time, while working full time & with 2 children & wonderful husband, I obtained my graduate degree & certification as a pediatric nurse practitioner (PNP) from Marquette University (MU). While I continued at the MCW, I worked as a PNP as a primary care provider at their outpatient clinic, then with the Child & Adolescent Treatment Center...Expand for more
, then at Children’s Hospital’s Adolescent consult clinic. In 2007, I was asked to be the PNP at MU’s new nurse-managed outpatient clinic, where I provided health care to children & adolescents but also served as a preceptor for MU’s NP students. In 2012, when both of our parents had died, and we were no longer anchored to Milwaukee to care for them, we decided to take the leap & move to Denver, CO, where I was offered a position with Denver Health, providing pediatric primary care in one of their 17 school-based clinics; ; a national model for providing pediatric primary care. In 11/2019, I will be retiring from my career, good timing since in 10/2019, we will be grandparents. We have had no regrets with our move to Denver because both of our children & their spouses live in/near Denver also AND the weather is so much sunnier with much more tolerable winters.
