Gloria's Story
Attended Morgan State College and graduated in 1968. I taught in Philadelphia for about 10 years (stopping in the middle to get a master's degree at the University of Washington). Moved to California in the late 1970s to pursue a doctorate at Stanford University. Taught 6 years at Santa Clara University and was recruited to the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1991 where I have been for the last 17 years.
Currently serve as chair of my department. Married with 4 adult children and 5 grandchildren. Life has been filled with excitement and disappointment. Fortunately, the ups far outwe...Expand for more
igh the downs and even the downs have been learning opportunities. Have traveled to every continent except Antarctica (don't plan to go there) and South America (am heading for Brazil eventually).
Am a 17 year breast cancer survivor and active with the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Beast Cancer Foundation.
Was ordained as a deacon in my church in October 2007. In May 2008 I delivered the commencement address at the University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Education.
