Gloria's Story

Married to a wonderful man-Jim! Been together almost 18 years, married for 12 (he says it feels more like 20!) He is my best friend and soul mate. Was working for Lamson College in the Surgical Technology Program--taught surgery and anatomy & physiology for the past 7 years--now I place the students at various hospitals for their externships and visit/observe them scrubbing cases---I have had my hands in some strange places inside of people's bodies - hmmm. However, I am now disabled and unable to work. I have no children of my own, but have 3 step children. They are now 22 - Keegan (USMC Sgt. McManus) who just got out of the Marines in August, 2009. Susan who is 25, married with two children. Shari who is 34, might as well be married with 3 kids (all boys) We have 3 dogs--Remington, Drago (both malamute mixes) and Briscoe (australian shepherd). lso still have 2 cats (for now anyways--Jim is ready to give them the boot) - Ranger and Dewey. Huge Texas Longhorn and Dallas Cowboys fans! We love to spend time drinking beer in our backyard that we have created to handle any type of entertainment: outdoor fireplace (soon to have TV and stereo) that will have a roof soon; built in bbq island w/smoker, gas grill and charcoal grill; also a sink w/garbage disposal; then of course, the swimming pool where we spend every Saturday playing water volleyball with our friends (when its warm enough which is about 7 months of swimming weather). We spend as much time as possible out back. We laugh all the time and feel very blessed for everything we have. It has all come with a lot of hard work! Since my illness we have not been able to much of any of that now. But I am thankful for my family, friends and home.
