Glyn's Story
Life
60 has come and gone. The shock of it must be the same for the rest of you folks! :)
My youngest daughter lost her battle with cancer at age 17 in 2004. My two sons live nearby with their families.
It's January 2013 and nothing much has changed except the ages and sizes of the grandkids. The youngest two are five and six now. They are the main entertainment at all family gatherings.
Life is busy. Upopolis has now spread across Canada from Halifax to Vancouver to eight different children's hospitals and facilities. Negotiations are in the works to connect with hospitals below the border. Upopolis is an online community powered by Telus for teens in hospital. My daughter was one of the inspirations for the creation of Upopolis. The most recent launch was held in September at Holland Bloorview Kids' Rehab Hospital in Toronto. Two new children's hospitals in Canada will be joining the Upopolis community this coming spring along with Toronto's first children's hospice..

As a family with the support of many friends we have raised over $160,000.00 through our Cupids Against Cancer fundraising event to support teens living with cancer. The On the Tip of the Toes Foundation takes these teens on wilderness therapy adventures. Katy was on the Moose Factory Expedition in March of 2003. Ten teens living with cancer, five from Quebec and five from Ontario snowmobiled 400 km across James Bay in minus 30 and 40 degree weather. It was the trip of a lifetime. We have always donated to Tip of Toes but for the last four years have concentrated solely on raising funds for them. Katy felt that the trip empowered her and gave her strength to battle on with cancer. This February will be our tenth year of fundraising. You can check it out at our website CupidsAgainstCancer.com.
