Goldi's Story

Not sure anyone even remembers me because I left Blue Ash the year the new high school was built. Now I live in Northern Kentucky. I'm a secretary at the largest middle school in KY. LOVE IT!!! I have one brother - Robert Walker. He was more known than I was because he was a stinker. I was a pretty good kid. Sharon Witt was my best friend and we were always together. My brother, Bobby, was much more popular than I was. I always wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a silly idea. As it turns out, they were right. But I did get a job in a school with children. I am the secretary at the largest middle school in KY. When I am angry or upset, I usually go into my bedroom and chill. I was an introvert in high school - well even middle school. The craziest thing I think I ever did was probably go out with James Jamison (who went with just about every girl for at least a week). That didn't do much for my reputation, but again, my big brother stepped in and defended me. I also skipped school a few times. Nothing major. We moved to Irvine, KY in 1972. I attended Estill County High School. I got married to my first husband in 1976 and had my first child in 1979. Divorced my first husband and married my second husband and had two children with him, a boy born in 1984 and a girl born in 1986. Divorced my second husband and finally got it right and married my third husband who by far, is the most wonderful man in the world. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Gary Walden, because we were very close. He always said we were meant to be together because we had the same exact initials. His full name was Gary Lane Walden and my full name was Goldi Lynn Walker. I was very upset when I found out Gary had been killed in a fire. I'm sure he is truely missed by many, including myself. I still think about him very often.. My youngest daughter lives with my husband and myself with her daughter. We have 2 dogs and a cat. Life is good. I think my biggest surprise in life is how amazing grandchildren can be. I never thought I could love so much in my life. My own children are grown now and having the opportunity to dote on my grandbabies is wonderful. One thing I've learned from my kids is there were reasons my parents were the way they were. Parents are NOT stupid like you think they are when you are young. I always said "When I have kids, my kids will get to do whatever they want"! NOT!!! Didn't turn out that way. You don't just stand there and let them ruin their life if you can prevent it from happening, even though you know they are going to say "When I have kids...." I have two teachers that come to mind from my high school days. First, Mr. Raschatore (not sure of the spelling). Gary Walden sat behind me in that class and I can remember me and Gary passing notes during his class and he never said anything. He was cool. Then, going back to junior high, there was Mr. Blackburn, the art teacher who swatted me twice because I refused one swat. He said I was talking, I said I wasn't. I had to take two for refusing one. If I won $100 million, I'd give most of it to my children, then spend the rest on a vacation for me and my whole family., bills and a new car. I hope my f...Expand for more
riends remember me in a kind way. I tried to treat people the way I wanted to be treated, which wasn't easy when you get picked on alot. I was kinda picked on at Sycamore but when I moved to Estill County, things changed. I had the opportunity to be someone totally different. I was more outgoing, but still stood up for the underdog. I always tried to side with those less fortunate than I was. I was the less fortunate at Sycamore so I knew what it was like. I don't think I could truly be happier. I have a wonderful family, a wonderful husband, a wonderful job and people I love to work with. It's hard to believe that when I was 12 I thought I knew it all! If I could go back - some of the things I would change would probably be I would speak up more when people were mean to me. My kids look at me as this short outspoken, scary person that people fear. I can honestly say that today, I stand up for what I believe in and I'm not afraid to approach someone and say "Hey, you are wrong!" I had a very difficult time when my husband got deployed to Iraq in 2004. I had real issues during Christmas when I went shopping and saw people from the middle east shopping with their entire family while MY family was torn apart with my husband in the Middle East. I was very bitter because I thought these young middle eastern men should be over their fighting for their country and my husband should be HERE shopping with me. My husband explained to me that I should not be bitter. He chose to do what he was doing and that he was doing good things for the people. I was very proud of him - and our country. The first guy I ever had a crush on at Sycamore was probably Gary Walden. I really can't say I dated many guys from Sycamore because I dated guys from Sharonville. I don't think anyone would even recognize me if we had a reunion. I don't think I am even one inch taller but quite a few inches wider. That's alright though. My husband loves me the way I am. I don't try to impress people. What you see is what you get. I am not as shy as I used to be. I think one thing I'll never forget as a child was one time I was at Penny and Eva Devaughn's house (on Creek Rd) and Eva (who was like 3 years older than me) convinced me she could not open a door on a camper being charged for a trip. Stupid me thought I was superwoman or something and I offered to get it open for her. Well, as soon as I grabbed the door, it started shocking me and I could not let go of the doorknob. They actually had to knock me off the doorknob. We lived over a block away but my mom heard me screaming all the way home. Well, that is pretty much the story of my life. I would love to see some of my closer friends. Vicky Jones was a good friend. I haven't heard from Sharon Witt for a while, but we were best friends. Janie Gardner was a great friend. She moved from Blue Ash before I left though. I was actually closer to many my brothers friends. Let's see, Billy Crutcher, Mark Eitel, Eddie Hedges, Kevin Mills (who I still talk to a lot). Again, my brother was much more popular than I was. It was difficult following in Bobbys footsteps. He is a wonderful big brother and has always been there for me. Soooooo, if anyone wants to know more about me, just drop me a line.
