Gord's Story

Life Well, things certainly have gone in directions that I never, ever expected them to while I was in highschool... heh. I became a vice president at age 26, though it's with a .com startup so don't get too excited for me just yet. ;) I'm playing with a web comic (of sorts...) these days, October's Fools, though I'm coming at it from a writer's perspective... this whole "art" thing is kinda new to me. One of these days I'm sure I'll get better at it. 2004 Update =========== Things have been quiet on the work front since the .com company went belly up a few years back... mostly doing contract stuff, and now I'm looking at going back to school. I really want to get back into the video game industry, so I'm headed to the International Academy of Design and Technology in downtown Toronto this July. If all goes well I should graduate December '05. It's a scary thought, going back to school again at this point in life, but I think it's the right step now. I have experience in the industry, which is great, but having the education AND experience is better. It may be that the biggest benefit will be exposure to more industry pros, as well - I have a few contacts, but more never hurts. Wish me luck! School Not much to say about school. My impression of the time was that I wasn't terribly memorable. I lived internally, didn't really socialize outside a relatively constant small group of friends, and that's about that, really. College I...Expand for more
attended Sheridan several times. The first time was a continuing education night course on creative writing. I liked it so much I took it again a second time as an audit. The second time was a full-time program, General Arts and Science, and as is the case for many if not most people, it was a life-changing experience. I'd barely begun to crack my shell in high school by the final year; most of it shattered away in college. I made a lot of great friends, took a lot of awesome classes, and learned that I can do amazingly well academically when I'm interested in what I'm learning... whodathunkit. I managed an A average for three semesters before personal problems I won't go into plunged my grades in the last semester. The one academic hurdle I never cleared was math, and that plagued me to no end the third time I went to Sheridan, for a computer programming course. I did really well in everything except precalculus. If I recall correctly, my grades in that began in the 40% range and dropped from there. ;) Not my best period in life. I didn't complete the program... so to speak. I enjoy programming but I suspect I'm not cut out to do it for a living... no great loss, I have much stronger interests. The last chapter (maybe?) in my academic life is upcoming. This July (2004) I'll be starting a Video Game Design and Development program at the International Academy of Design and Technology. It should be cool. I'll update my profile as time warrants.
