Gordon's Story
Just updated the foto to one taken last week in the Algarve at Easter 2009...
Hello former classmates. I lost my membership in this list a couple of years back when changing ISPs. I still live in Porto, Portugal (19 years now) where I teach English and do editing work. I'm at gordonegrams on gmail.com. I haven't taken out a paid membership in Classmates, but if you care to write me I'd be delighted to hear from you and will send you a full bio.
I have been looking for Robert/Bob Boyd for some time. If anyone has a contact for him I would greatly appreciate having it. He seems to have dropped off the face of the earth. Even His brother Alexander in Victoria has no idea where he is.
Here is a very brief thumbnail of my life after 1967. I worked another summer in commercial salmon fishing, That year it was mostly Alaska, and later the Tuna run off the Oregon coast. I then went to Mt Royal College in Calgary for 2 years, then worked on northern Vancouver Island for another 2 years, and then spent almost 2 years in Africa (Sudan, Kenya, and Zaire mainly). I returned to Canada in Â74 and did a 4-year apprenticeship in HD Mechanics with the Min of Highways, during which time I lived in Naniamo, Esquimalt, Salmon Arm, and Vernon. ttled in Merritt for 10 years, where I worked as a mechanic for Highland Valley Copper in Logan Lake, during which time I raised a family of 3 step-children. I worked in heath and safety for the last 3 years in the mine then in Â'88 I moved to Prince George (after my wife left for the big city lights of West Van.) where I was a sales rep for Context Training and their Pursuit of Excellence Series, a professional and personal development course.
I have lived in Portugal for 19 years now, am married for the 2nd time and have 2 young girls, aged 13 and 15. My wife Ana is Angolan-Portuguese and she is a forensic physician at the National Institute of Legal Medicine and also a professor at a major medical faculty. I teach English at a small University in the interior (Vila Real where the Mateus wine comes from) and I love my work and life here. I certainly donÂt miss the long winters and shovelling the snow. I also do text revision/editing work, mostly academic/scientific papers, for people who want to publish their research or a thesis in English. I continue to play the guitar and have been learning jazz. I cycle, eat mostly Mediterranean/vegetarian and stay young by trying to keep up with my daughters.
ThatÂs all I have time for just now. IÂd love to hear from any of you who remember me.
All the best,
Gordon Grams
