Grace Graham:

CLASS OF 1984
Hyde park, NY

Grace's Story

Graduated August '84 and headed straight for River Ridge, LA. Ten months later I came back to NY and spent some time at DCC studying Computer Science. After deciding I didn't really want to program computers I tried human services in the form of working with the homeless in Poughkeepsie. A friend talked me into volunteering at a program in Newburgh working with kids with developmental disabilities on Saturdays. I enjoyed it. I liked working with kids and it was kind of recreational. I felt privileged to be able to watch these kids grow up. Eventually I started spending time with the adult day program and was hired. I worked for a short time at a second agency with a man in his home. At that point, in the late '90's, I was working 3 jobs. If you count meeting a group of kids somewhere for lunch then going with them to some kind of recreational activity (eg. movies, roller skating, pumpkin picking, apple picking, etc...) work. I made friends with someone who suggested I apply for a job with the agency I'm working for now, and long story short, I've been with this agency, in a few different capaci...Expand for more
ties, since '04. I left the day program behind in '05. I miss many of the people I left behind in the programs for people with developmental disabilities. I still see some of the people I knew when I was working with the homeless around and about. Sometimes I wish I could have done more for them. I'm looking to go back to school, maybe DCC, more likely New Paltz. At this point in my life I'm thinking about Computer Engineering or Electrical/Electronic Engineering. It's a thought no longer. I'm at DCC in the ELT program, electrical engineering technology program. Yea!!! I've never been married. Of course If I did get married the federal government wont recognize it with the people I've dated for most of my life, so marriage has been out of the question. Yes this is a bit of a sore spot in my life. I never wanted to be a single parent, so I never had or adopted children. Not that I didn't want to. My kids are feline. Both domestic short hair of different coloring. Spot is mostly white with some black spots, and Brat has typical tabby colors. I'm on facebook and myspace as well. Look me up.
