Grace's Story
Life
I live in Netcong, New Jersey with my boyfriend of 6 1/2 years, Dexter, and our three cats, Harley, Petey, and Katie. I'm an adjunct mathematics professor as a small, liberal arts college (Centenary College) in Hackettstown, NJ. I also teach for the Princeton Review, tutor my former high school students in SATs and Math, and work for Weight Watchers. I'm a full-time PhD student in General Education at Walden University and in my very little spare time I play on a competitive women's soccer team twice a week. We finally left the hotel in mid-July of 2007 (FYI: Our previous house burnt down two days before Thanksgiving in 2006 and we had been living in a hotel from then until July) and are renting a cute little duplex in the middle of nowhere. Dexter is still working at Picatinny Arsenal full time and spending his weekends at Marty's Bike Shop in Randolph, NJ.
School
Mr. Swanson is the only reason I could write a paper in college. Thank you!
College
I graduated with honors from Stevens Institute of Technology with my BS and MS in Applied Mathematics, with a minor in...Expand for more
Literature and a graduate certificate in Applied Statistics. I played Varsity Soccer, Basketball, and Volleyball and still hold two places in the record books. I also fell asleep during my Chemistry final in Dr. Cac..cies...taatar...whatever's office my junior year. I rocked that C! I completed 15 grad credits with New Jersey City University (and will never ever go back) for my Alternate Route Program. I am currently working on my PhD in General Education with Walden University. My goal is to graduate by the time I'm 30 and force all my students to call me Doc.
Workplace
After college I worked at Lockheed Martin as an engineer for nine months. Hated it. Then I worked at the International Securities Exchange in downtown NYC for nine months. Hated it. I started subbing at a few local schools and worked as a tutor at a Kumon Center until I finally got a job as an alternate route teacher in New Jersey. I'm now at my second school and in my third year of teaching math. I absolutely love it! Next year, I will hopefully have the AP Calculus and AP Physics classes to teach.
