Grant's Story
I live in upstate, NY - a town called Niskayuna, near the state capitol of Albany. Have been here 33 years. Retired from GE three years ago. Most of my time with GE was at the Research Center. My biggest surprise is that I never left. I always wanted to return to the Northwest. On the other hand, it's beautiful in this area - very rural and close to mountains and water.
Went to WSU, studied Metallurgy. Loved chemistry (physical) and math so metallurgy was a good niche for me. Grad School at Univ of Illinois PhD in metallurgical engineering. I was very proud of my thesis - I discovered a new particle diffraction phenomenon and proved its existence.
Worked for many years at the GE R&D Center and the GE Power Systems division. I loved every minute of it.
When I was younger, mountain climbing and skiing were my passions. Now knees limit hiking and back limits skiing. Now into skeet shooting and competitive pistol, golf and scuba diving. I quit playing the cello 20 years ago and am trying to get started again.

e. He's in Nepal for Spring Break.
When my kids were younger we hiked and climbed in the Cascades and Sierras every summer.
I retired at the beginning of 2006 and have an active retirement life involved in skeet shooting, pistol bullseye competition, Golf and Scube diving.
I love scuba diving and have been doing it for about ten years now. Get out to the Pacific equatorial area almost annually. Wish I had the time and money to do more. I also travel with my wife. Our last trip was to Egypt and Jordan.
I remember Mr Shull from WSHS. He really inspired my interest in math and trigonometry. All in all I had pretty inspiring math instructors at all education levels, I was very lucky.
I was quiet in high school. My passions were cars and science. I smoked like many of my classmates. Quit smoking in 1972 thank God.
Today, my best friend would tell you I'm funny with a dry sense of humor, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as serious.
My best friend in high school, Jim Maher, passed away a few years ago. He and his brother Mark and my brother Tom and I always hung around and did things together.
