Greg's Story

Greetings from Big Sky Country, Missoula, Montana, The question was asked,"How do you hope old friends remember you?" Well, I hope, even though I felt like a very insular person in high school, I hope that people remember me with a bit of courage and strength. Walking the way I walked always seemed like a bigger deal to others than it was to me. My biggest regret in high school, were all the lies I told that offended and assaulted other people. To those of you who bore the brunt of these falsehoods, I am sorry, very sorry--I just wanted all of you to know that. The truth is, that I was dealing with a lot of hurt that few of you knew anout. The teenage years of Greg(g) Barsi were far less idyllic than that poser, Greg Brady. Life changes us all, and I hope that we have found good and gracious blessings and gifts in our lives. After graduation, I attended SRJC, LDS Business College (Salt Lake City) and a now defunct design school in Los Angeles, from which I obtained a Certificate Degree in Design. I used this degree to further my work in theatrical and floral design. . .Too, I used the knowledge I gained in the myriad of projects I had worked on to open my wedding and party planning business. After I left my theatrical work behind and clo...Expand for more
sed my business, I took care of my ailing parents, and helped to raise my niece. Not really the plan I had for my life, but very rewarding nonetheless. In the summer of 2002, I got very ill and lost the ability to walk. An injection administered to me in the hospital in Santa Rosa during my two month stay, further paralyzed me from the waist down. I was sent to the only nursing home in Willits, where I lived for five plus years. While in Willits, I wrote a weekly newspaper column, plus did theatre reviews for one of the local papers. In one of my weekly colums, In My Opinion, I came out of the closet. You know, the closet and the shadows are terribly lonely and dark places to live. The light has so much hope in it-- Currently, I live in a group home here in the countryside of Missoula. From where I've come from, it is a good place to be. . .for now. After some further physical rehab, I should be out on my own. Four wheels now work in place of two legs, but in many ways, I am still consider myself a very lucky man. Well everyone, that's (part of) my story and I'm stickin' to it. . . You know, high school may not have been a High School Musical for me. . .or many of us, but I look back at parts of it fondly, as I do so very many of you.
