Greg's Story

Life Since I graduated from Highland High in '97 I've managed to stay pretty busy. If you didn't know it before now I joined the Air Force half way through my senior year and left for basic training two months after graduation in Aug. of '97. Since then I've been a lot of places and have seen a lot of things. The first stop I made in during my military career was Lackland AFB (basic training) in San Antonio TX. I was only there for 7 weeks and then it was on to Kessler AFB in Biloxi Mississippi. This is where I spent my next ten months as I was trained as a ground radio maintenance technician. This is also where I met my wife Jessica, but we didn't get married until October of '99. My first duty station took me to McChord AFB in Tacoma, Washington. This was a great place to live and I was only 3 1/2 hours from Canada, I went to drink there a lot since I was only 19 at the time. Washington is a beautiful state and I would recommend visiting there sometime. I lived there from Jul '98 to May '00 My next base was Andrews AFB in Maryland. This is where they keep the President's plane, known as "Air Force One" (when the President is on the plane). This was an alright assignment, but I didn't care for all the traffic and rude people in the D.C. area. I lived here from May'00 to Jul '04. Next I retrained into Broadcast Journalism at the Defense Information School in Fort Meade, Maryland. After my training I moved to Incirlik AB, Turkey for my first assignment as a Broadcast Journalist. Turkey was a great country and...Expand for more
I had a lot of fun while I was stationed there. They have a lot of great food and the shopping there is awesome. My first child was born while I was stationed here. After only 15 months in Turkey, I moved Keflavik NAS, in Iceland. My time spent in Iceland was short, I was sent there to do a 2 year tour, but I only lived there for 7 months since they decided to close the base down. After Iceland I moved to Germany. And that's where I live now. I'm stationed at Ramstein AB, Germany and I live only a few minutes away from the base in Meisenbach. I've been here since June of '06 and I should be living here until the summer of 2009. My daughter was born on September 11, 2006 in Landstuhl, Germany. I'm currently stationed to the Regional News Center for Europe and we get to travel a lot here. I go on the road pretty often to cover stories happening in the Europena Region or Africa. In addition to the places I've named above, I've also been to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, Djibouti, Denmark, Belgium, Holland, the Faroe Islands, Georgia, Romania and England. I've enjoyed my time in the military so far and I still have about 9 more years to go until I can retire and move on to something else. The one thing I've been lagging on is getting an education. It's hard to go to school when you're working full-time, on the road a lot and have two kids. After just one more class I'll knock out two associates degrees and then I'll move on to getting a bachelors in something (if I find the time). Peace and Polar Fleece! Blue
