Greg's Story

Life Wow, lets see.....I went from high school into the job market. I made some really great friends and maintain contact with some of them even today. I worked as a cabinet maker through most of my young adult life. didn't make much but I was having fun anyway. It wasn't long that it was a job and not so much fun. I eventually built up my own cabinet shop with my dad and my brother....I had a few girl friends during this time but nothing really stuck. I met Kathy, my wife, in 1999. we married Nov. 21, 2005. We have an awesome little boy named Ian, almost 3. I sure am proud to be a dad perhaps one of the best thing to ever happen to me. I live in the North Natomas area I've been there just over 3yrs now. I never really left Sacramento and probably never will. I enjoy tinkering in the garage with my woodworking, I love to fish and playing with Ian, I think I rediscovered my inner child.hehehe Yes Life has been good....not always easy, but definitely good. Workplace Well My jobs Over the past 20 yrs have been in the cabinet making business. I worked for others and also had my shop with my Dad and my Brother Dennis....We where fairly successful...but it was hard work and was taking its toll. When I turned 30 I had hit a bit of a cri...Expand for more
sis....looking forward into the next 10 years I saw more of the past 10 yrs....It was time for a change....I went back to school in hopes of getting into the fire service. I got into Paramedic school at ARC...I got my Paramedic license in March 2001. I went to work for a private Ambulance company here in Sacramento (First Responder). I tested with the area Fire Depts. FINALLY a life long dream reached!!! I got hired by the City of Sacramento Fire Dept in Sep. 2001. Just 7 days before 9/11. WOW did that have an impact on all 43 of my fellow recruits. This was a serious job "Never Forget". I graduated the academy Dec 21, 2001 Just 3 day past my 35th birthday. I served on Medic 6 in Oak Park for a year while on probation. Now that was interesting. I then spent the next 3 yrs at Medic 20 with the best medic Partner and best friend Steve Mayer....In case you don't know Medic 20 is in Del Paso Heights. It was there I gained some of my most valuable experience and some hard lessons. I wouldn't have traded it for anything. After 4 yrs I had enough seniority to get assigned to an engine company. I went through Hazardous Materials Specialist training this past year and am currently assigned to Engine 7 as a Firefighter/Paramedic/Hazmat Specialist.
