Greg's Story

Life After graduating from BHS, I went to Arizona State Univ. I was in ROTC at ASU so ended up in the Army in Special Forces and naturally did a tour in Viet Nam. After Viet Nam I was a stock broker in SF for two years, then went back to our family business(Gabrilson Htg & A/C)in Iowa. My wife & I left there to move back to Phoenix and worked for Honeywell for another 10 years. I left the Valley to go with a start-up back in the midwest but returned to Phoenix five years ago. I have now (2003) returned to the family contracting business in Iowa to help grow that business and finish out my career. I am divorced from my wife of 26 years but I have two grown daughters, 30 & 28. We still vacation every year in Hayward, Wisc. As grown up as our girls are they still love to go "up-North" and fish, water ski, swim, and just being with family. They are great kids. My "Now" photo shows me with Shannon and Stacey. My dad is still alive and has a home in Sun City, AZ in the winter but I lost my Mom 20 years ago to cancer. (update: my father passed away on memorial day, 2007. A blessing as he was pretty much bed ridden his last year) As my announcement says Marty and I are now married for a year (update: 21/2 years!). It has been wonderful being married to a gal I dated when I was 16! We have a nice home right on the Mississippi river and, with all of our kids grown and out of state we just enjoy our two (update: we had Marty's 11 year old border collie and a boxer puppy and we have just added a 9 month old boxer...it's like raising kids again!) dogs. We are very active, yard work, golf, fishing and going to Golds Gym three times a week in "spin" class. We both have mountain bikes but with the new yard have fo...Expand for more
und little time to use them. Our family business, Gabrilson Indoor Climate Solutions, is now 62 years old and doing well. Marty is still working as an education consultant and an adjunct professor with a local college. We had my class reunion this year and both Marty and I had a ball. I encourage everyone to sign up for our 45th in 2010. (update: the Class of '65 had its 60th birthday party last October and I have never seen so many people having fun....I was glad to be a part of it! For those of you that are reading this and don't have pictures of this party, please send me an email.) I hope everyone reading this is doing well and are happy. We are. Military I entered the US Army from ROTC Arizona State University where I was a DMG. My first assignment was Infantry Officers Basic Course in Feb of 1970 at Ft Benning. I graduated from IOBC on the Commendant's List(top 10%). I stayed there and went to Airborne School. Next was Special Forces Officers Course at Ft. Bragg where again I graduated on the Commendant's List. Stayed there and went to SF Jumpmaster School before my first duty assignment in Panama with the 8th Special Forces Group. Our A-Team tought Long Range Recon. Late in 1972 I was assigned to Viet Nam and was with USARV Individual Training Battalion, which was the left over Special Forces Group after the 5th Group Colors went home. We have several camps in Viet Nam for the purpose of training Cambodian solders. I was assigned to Phoc Tuy Training Battalion(PTTB) and was located just around the bay from Vung Tau. It was a beautiful location, right on the Red China Sea. Tricky Dick was trying to wind the war down and I got an early out, discharged in the spring of 1973 in California.
