Gregory's Story
Survived college with a BS in Marine Biology from Nicholls State University, Thibodeaux, LA where I met the love of my life. Commissioned May 23, 1971, attended pilot training in Georgia, assigned to Taiwan, I flew the C-130 Hercules in Vietnam. Vina (Nicholls â68), John, our son, and I moved to the Philippines where I continued flying in SEA: POWs from Hanoi; evacuation of Cambodia, and Saigon, until April â75. We arrived in Fayetteville, NC, where I worked as a personnel officer (got a masters in management), Vina taught school and we had our second son, David. A C-130 instructor pilot, I deployed to Europe and in 1981we moved to Sumter, SC where I traveled all over the world including Grenada. Attended staff college, Montgomery, AL, relearned proper French at Defense Language Institute, Monterey, CA and in 1986 we all moved to Kinshasa, Zaire. I flew ...Expand for more
the Beechcraft King Air and Vina taught at the international school. Returning to NC, I flew the C-130 and Vina taught school. Our next assignment: US Embassy, Paris, France. Ooh, La, La Cher! After three years, two Paris Air Shows, too many officials, and the wonderful 50th anniversary WWII celebrations, Uncle Sam sent us to New Jersey for penance. I was deployed to Vicenza, Italy, for the troubles in Bosnia-Herzegovina then retired after 27 years. We settled in Winston-Salem, NC where I managed tax settlements. October 2002, I was hired to direct human resources for Forsyth Technical Community College where I really enjoy working with faculty, staff and students (and student veterans). Vina just retired from 28 years of teaching. We both enjoy our house, gardens, church and especially our granddaughters, Lillian (10) and Sara Nell (8) in nearby Asheville.
