Gregory's Story

After High School, I don't know why they graduated me other than to get me out of the school, I attempted a stint at Eastern Oregon College, had fun, failed, joined the Navy in Feb of 1967. I was a dry land sailor, spent my first year in Adak Alaska, the Navy calls it "preferred sea duty", I'm not certain who would prefer it, cold, windy, miserable place. I went to another school, this time a Navy School, where I learned to program old outdated pre-computer equipment. I was then transferred to the Pentagon where I spent the rest of my Navy career. I learned to program, self taught, 2nd generation computer equipment where I wrote some programs for the Navy that were used for 5 yr budget forecasting, learned to write code for finding ships in a radius or polygon area. Wrote code to assist in determining how many Navy ships transited various waterways for the Freedom of the seas conference. So much for that stuff, it was interesting and kept me out of trouble. I met my first wife we were married about a month after I exited the Navy on Jan 4, 1971. We had one child together. I spent then next 11 years working for Boeing Computer Services in Virginia then in Renton, Wa. We finally divorced in 1982 and I moved to Massachusetts with a communications company...Expand for more
where I met my 2nd to be, and final wife. We moved to Florida in 1991, my wife wanted to be near her parents, where I was working for a computer company, still writing software but now for specific customers. I worked for several other companies until 2007 where I finally ended my software development and semi-retired, I poked around with a number of jobs, some were fun, some were not. By this time our two boys were graduating from high school and off on their own. We are still in Florida and now live in a retiremement community called The Villages. A small retirement community of about 155,000 retirees. This community is a Disney for retirees. 39 par 3 courses 14 championship courses and recreation centers all over the place. Anyhow, the boys are in L.A. and the oldest is a motion graphics designer and the youngest is going back to school to get out of the culinary industry, he was an executive chef for a Marriott property which, due to covid, is shutdown. So, that about ends my story, way too long and I apologize for putting you through the agony of trying to read this diatribe. I wish you all good health and long life! PS: Golf, pickleball, evening games with friends, all keeps me hustling to get to the next event, way more work than work was, LOL.
