Gregory's Story

Life In the immortal words of Gabby Hayes,"Doll garn dangit I was born here and I was raised here". I am referring to the wonderful town of Garden City,MI. I have lived in Garden City for most of my life. The people of Garden City are wonderful. I have been through the worst and the best in this town. I lived in Fort Wayne,IN for a year. They are a good bunch of folks, too. But, Garden City is the best. No where can you find more places to eat than in Garden City. It is a quaint town, nestled in around Westland, Inkster, and Dearborn Heights. I have taught in Garden City for 4 years. Guest Teacher (i.e. Substitute). I played on the streets of Garden City when I was a kid. Street hockey, tackle football, baseball, and soccer. Soccer was the only sport that I played organized. The other sports were with neighborhood friends of mine. Basketball, too. I grew up kind of sheltered. I studied hard and played hard throughout my growing up as a student and as an athelete in Garden City. I was able to pay my way through college by working in the Summer and going to school in the Fall and Winter terms. I was a very motivated and independent person. I had some of the best teachers growing up in Garden City and in the University that I commuted to. The High School fight song for the Garden City Cougars is, "Hail to the Victors". This is ironic, because I am a Michigan Grad. During my college career I managed to go to Michigan Football games for 5 years in a row. I got to know that fight song real well. In fact I have it on CD. Those were my glory years. The hard times followed. I over loaded myself in college and had a breakdown. I was hit hard by this. I did not want to go to school anymore. Somehow, by the grace of God. I managed to get my diploma in Fall 1993. If it wasn't for the good study habits I had and good up bringing I might not have made my goal of Bachelor of Science....Expand for more
After I graduated from college, I mentored my sister. She graduated last year on the same day, 10 years later from the same school I went to. "Hail to the Victors", Go Blue. School I graduated from Garden City High School in 1987. I was a preppie. I wore deck shoes, minus the socks LOL. I had a really bad mullet back then, I am embarrassed to look at my High School photo (p.54). I looked like such the dork. I was an honor roll student. My Senior year grades were good, considering the weighted classes I was taking. I was a Scientist in the making, I took all the Science classes offered at Garden City High except for Botany, Genetics, and Organic Chemistry. I have since gone back to Garden City Public Schools and had the honor of Guest Teaching Mr. Potoczak's classes for one week. College I graduated from U-M Dearborn in 1993 Fall term. Until, the economy lets up a little maybe I'll find that dream job. I enjoyed my co-op experience at Diversey-Wyandotte when I was in college. I didn't know how easy I had it. I was Formulating Industrial Grade Laundry Detergents. How I miss those days. Hopefully, the future will be brighter. Currently, I am a Self-employed Tutor and studying to take the MCAT (Medical College Admission Test). Workplace I am a jack of all trades. I have worked in Education as a Guest Teacher, OSHA safety at the Plymouth Diversey Lab, Tutored, delivered pizzas, banquet server, cashier at a Liquor Store, Prep Chef at an Italian Restaurant, chef at Mc Donald's (i.e. grill jockey LOL), and Quality Assurance Technician for Absopure. Not all at once LOL. I have worked these jobs in high school and in college and out of college. They are in random order as I thought them up. I have had so many, it is hard to keep track of them all. Ohh, I forgot another one. I had to clean ash trays, shine lanes, and clean up the messes left behind at Oak Lanes.
