Gregory's Story
Life
Gregory Gyllsdorff serves as the Orchestra Conductor, Piano Keyboard Instructor and Coordinator for the Creative and Performing Arts program at Auburn High School. He is also the Director of Music at the First Presbyterian Church in Freeport, Illinois where he plays the organ, and conducts the adult choir and bell choir.
He received his Bachelor and Master of Fine Arts degrees from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the organ class of Donald Wilkins. As the recipient of the Waldron Scholarship Award, he furthered his studies in Organ, Harmony, Solfège and Analysis at the Conservatoire de Musique in Fontainebleau, France in the classes of Nadia Boulanger and André Marchal. h Music were in the class of Marilyn Keiser at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. While at Indiana University he served as an Associate Instructor, teaching a course in keyboard skills to graduate organ students.
A winner of numerous awards for both playing and choral conducting, he earned the ChM degree in 1980, the AAGO degree in 1985, and the FAGO degree in 1989. In 1994 he was the soloist for the Guilmant Organ Symphony for the Abendmusik: Lincoln, Nebraska Concert Series. He served on the Editorial Board for the Association of Anglican Musicians, and was recently nominated for National Councilor for Education for the American Guild of Organists. For the past six years, he served on the National Education Committee for the AGO.
