Guadalupe's Story

Jefferson, Oregon May of 1967, The Yzaguirre's arrived. My parents were migrant field workers. Always moving due to crops. We settled in Jefferson I was 5 or so. I went through JES while always on the move. My best friend all thru High school was Leland Pedersen. We went thru alot fishing, walking the town, crabing, eluding the local police in fun. sharing where we would stay the weekend, I played football, basketball, baseball and track thru high school. We(parents)couldn't afford much but they would allow us kids to do the sports. Dad never made a sports event but mom made my last game of basketball my senior yr. Another close friend is Angel Dawson thru High school, thanks Angel. After JHS I worked for a local farmer in Dever Conner area, AE Chambers. I served in the Army from Nov 1980 to Nov 1984 as a chaplains assistant. Stationed at Ft Hood,TX 80-83,then Germany 83 to 84. I spent my long weekends at my uncle's house in Tx and Mexico while I was at FT Hood. In Germany I traveled all over Europe, all of Germany,France,Italy. I'd go on Volksmarches (Hikes thru the country side) on my long weekends. When I got out in Nov 84.I came home to Jefferson where my life began. In our senior year Leland was working at Turhunes Dairy for Phil Neely. I told myself that wasn't for me. Well in January 85 I got a job where else on a Dairy in Turner,Or I spent 3 1/2 yrs there,I moved on to Morning Mist Dairy in Aug 88,I stayed with them for 18 ys. Morning Mist Dairy,in Jefferson was owned by the Kamlade's Nick and Terry. Good people all around. They sold thier cows and I was out of a job. Not for long. I met my wife in May of 86,(Barb)she had Jason from a previos marriage in Jefferson. She was a Navy Vet. Our family began in May of 89 with the birth of our son Juan and we got married in Sept of 89,Juan went on the honeymoon. Jame was born in our home thru a midwife in Nov 90, Lil Lupe was born in Nov 93 by C-section he was coming butt first we didn't want to risk the life of either one. Jame will be the Last Yzaguirre to graduate from JHS in 09 for a while. We lived in Jefferson up until July 08. In Mar of 99 we lost Barb's Mom and I was diagnosed with Diabetes both on the same day. In Mar of 04 I had a 5way bipass with little damage to the hea...Expand for more
rt. While still working at Morning Mist Dairy. I still worked cause bills had to be paid. In 06 Morning Mist sold thier cows and I went looking for work.I was out of job and I tried to be a painter that didn't work. I ended up at a dairy in St.Paul. I suffer a heart attack in May of 07, This time my heart was damage. It was due to 3 of the graphs from 04 that had calpse and never took hold. Barb's job offered her a chance for a promotion but it had to be a move from Oregon to Kentucky. We took a long look at the possiblities of a future with out me,very scaring times because I didn't know how much time I would have with my family. We agreed that I would work until we had to move. We moved in July 08. I worked at a Dairy in Monroe, Or until we moved. The week we traveled from Oregon to Kentucky was a week from hell. Blown tires, weather, crazy drivers you name it crossed our path. Barb's job paid for the move and she went to work two days after we got to London, KY. I was jobless for a month or so and was denied unemployment benifets from Oregon because the reason for leaving was not good enough. So I found a job working for a lightbulb factory in a neighboring town for minimum wages. I was hired by Barb's company in Oct 08 and have been there since. I do miss home (Jefferson)but I know it was the right move to make. Barb would not have made it in Jefferson the way her company promoted people in her job. Now she has a chance and will be able to take care of herself and Lil Lupe in case I were to die. The move made me face reality. It doesn't matter whether my brothers and sisters agreed on the move it was best for my imediate family and their future. I have lived and enjoyable life and truth be known I wouldn't change it. I have health problems but only God will one day heal me and yet take care of my family after I am gone. Right now I am healthy but who know when an other heart attack may occur. To my Class of 79 I don't know if I'll see you guys again but thanks for the memories. You gave me hope and dreams and now life and soon I'll be gone take care of your health and live as you were intended to. I hope to see my grandkids but I don't know for sure. Peace be within you.
