Gustavo's Story

Gustavo, called Tavo,(amoung others things), lived in Eagle Pass from 1944 to1964 and graduated from Eagle Pass High in 1964. Gus played football and track for the Eagles during his high school years. Gustavo had three sisters; Cecilia, Carmen, and Maria del Soccor or 'Cookie' as she is still known. Our beloved sister Cecilia passed away in 1997 and Carmen, who is a CPA, lives in San Antoino and Cookie in Livingston, Texas. Tavo joined the Army right out of high school and served in VietNam from 1966 to 1967 and was honorably discharged a Specialist Five from Walter Reed General Hospital in Washington D.C. where he served as a Clinical Psychology Specialist and Nuero-Psychiatric Technician. Gustavo served in law enforcment for 35 years as a police officer, criminal investigator, parole and probaton officer and deputy sheriff. However, Tavo's interest in psychology has never disminished and Gustavo had his own clinic where he served as director for a bilingual clinic that counseled persons suffering from alcohol drug abuse and anger/aggression. Most of his clients were recent immigrants from Mexico and Central America who normally would not have access to mental health services in Spanish. In December of 2011 Gustavo closed his independent clinic and went to work as a Counselor Clinician in East Baltimore at Turning Point, Inc. ...Expand for more
