Gustavo's Story

After graduation May 1973, joined the US Army, Volunteer to check out Vietnam. Afet 2 months in Ft. Jackson went to Ft Belvoir , Military Engineer School where completed the military Drafting school. After a few weeks in Puerto Rico, reported to California for a trip to Vietnam which was changed and I ended up in Korea in January 1974. Worked in Camp Carroll, a small army depot receiving war, Vietnam, junk for storage and destruction. While in Korea did what the Korean did, travelled all over the peninsula every opportunity given in an adventurer way. A pack on my back and with some friends took a challenge to visit popular places in Korea. The DMC most known as the "Zone" is where North Korea separates from South Korea, Mount Cumi, the tallest mountain in Korea, Zeul, the capital, Taegu, the metropolitan, Pusan, the tropical beaches including chegu-do island which was compared to Puerto Rico for the beaches and climate. That was an experience. After my tour in Korea and re-enlisting for another 3 years a month before my traveling to Panama my next scheduled assignment I broke a bone and ended up in Ft Ord California for treatment. While in California did what Californian did. Travelled from San Francisco for the concerts of El Gran Combo, to Mexicali, Mexico for the nice and inexpensive ni...Expand for more
ght live. Visited the Mojave desert, Lake Tahoe, the 17 mile drive, Los Angeles and other interesting places. Lived in Carmel by the Sea, Seaside, Salinas and San Jose, not bad for a 3 years stay. California was a blast, Monterrey Peninsula is almost as beautiful as Puerto Rico. My California/Mexican experience, nothing really hipe but a thing or two to remember. Returned to Puerto Rico and after 4 years living in Ponce w/my uncle, Tio Manolo, whom I would never forget not his daughters, Mercedita, Carmen y Mily, felt the necessity to travel and to Miami, Florida I came, where I have been since. Arrived on Saturday May 15, 2 days after my birthday still with the hang-over from my go away party given by friend and family in La Guancha de Ponce, leaving my "Mad Max" look alike car, to my nephew Tito, who was considered my younger brother at the time. My job interview was on Monday, thanks a friend, Frank Aviles, from Utuado, who let more than a hand to me and others that came with me. Still on the job with the Justice Department for more than 26 years. After a thing or two travelled to Puerto Rico, Juana Diaz where I met my Wife, Annette with whom I have 2 beautiful daughters, Grace Annette and Valerie Ann. What else can you ask for. . .Life is beautiful, we have to enjoy it and I am doing it. . .
