Guy's Story
I attended UNH for a couple of years for Chemistry. It was "fun" and all, but I became disenchanted with my courses and college, and decided to pursue other things until I figured out what I wanted to do. ( worked at foundry, volunteer firefighter, tractor-trailer trucking, insurance sales..). I moved out to Washington in early 1990. At the beginning of Sept, I was recalled to active duty Navy "SeaBees" (Construction Battalion) from the reserves, to serve as a Construction Mechanic (heavy equipment mechanic) for Desert Shield / Desert Storm. (I had enlisted in the reserves the first year of college, going to basic training and 'A' school during the following two summers). I initially went to Subic Bay, Philippines, and then on to Al Jubail Saudi Arabia in support of Fleet Hospital 5 (a 500 bed tent field hospital ). (I met General "Stormin" Norman Schwarzkopf the day my unit was finally leaving the sandbox!). (Funny story: while in the Philippines, I went through a military Jungle Environmental Survival ...Expand for more
Training course. Then, ... they sent me to the barren desert!)
Once back in WA in May '91, I re-enrolled for school starting Sept '91 for electronics engineering. I went the technical college route as I was interested in applied engineering. I attended school full time evening classes, and began working for Panasonic Avionics corp. as a technician while in school. I went straight from work to school 5 nights a week ~ 6 am - 11pm!), and on weekends I worked overtime and caught up on homework. I did this for the next 3 years straight, including two summer semesters! (I took the "middle" summer off from school for a breather). Nearing graduation in Sept '94, I obtained an engineering position at Panasonic (where I now still work as a senior engineer).
I married my wife in '98, and daughter came along in 2004. I've traveled to quite a few places around the world on business and pleasure, and love the Puget Sound region of Washington (mountains, sound, islands, and sea).
