Gwen's Story

Life Well Im 44 now,as most of us are in the class of '79.Im married to a ex US Navy man so we got stationed in Norfolk,Va right now about 15 minutes from the ocean. We used to love it down here, because its warm and of course the ocean is breath-taking.We have a sweet little doggie named Bella who is half daschund and half welsh corgey, she is a mama's girl and very spoiled, she even sleeps with me and uses a pillow and blanket..lol.The best thing about this site is hearing from old and dear friends.Out of all the places we've been stationed Id love to go back to Georgia but right now its not possible. Its absolutely stunning there and the people are so nice and considerate not to mention the beautiful weather. We plan to retire there some day.If your ever in Georgia you must see river street in Savannah and just Savannah period, its gorgeous.Spanish moss hanging off the tree's.palm tree's,eating at cafe's and restaraunts on river street overlooking the Savannah river which is more the size of an ocean........lol. School I grew up in East Dayton Ohio and went to alot of different elementary schools due to us moving alot,no we werent military. From 6th thru 8th grade I went to Orville Wright Middle School (at that time it was anyway) and in 9th grade went to Wilbur Wright High School(again it was at the time),after that we moved to Mad River so I went to Stebbins in 10th,11th,and all of 12th but the last 3 months.Like an idiot I was flunking Govt. because I found it boring so I wasnt going to be able to march in the ceremonies. When they told me I could still graduate if I went to summer school but not march I quit, plus I got married in February of my senior year, again an idiot except for getting my beautiful kids out of it.Once married I thought I was big stuff,an ad...Expand for more
ult so thats another reason I quit.In October of 1993 I got my GED because I felt I couldnt very well tell my kids to graduate when I dropped out.Im very glad I got it and proud of myself for getting it after being out of school for 14 years. Workplace I have been disabled since 1990 due to health problems but especially my back.Ive had a few jobs over the years when Ive tried to work but couldnt work long due to my health.I wish I could work because the times I have Ive loved working with the public. The best job Ive had was working for Main Auto Parts on and off for 3 years as first a delivery driver then a counterperson looking up parts and waiting on customers.Ive worked as a payroll accountant, auto auction driver, car parts delivery and counterperson, cashier. The doctor's prognosis isnt too hopeful so no surgery will help, most of the damage is irreversible so I just try to deal with it with God's help.UPDATE ON HEALTH:I finally found a pain specialist that suggested having an intrathecal drug pump installed which has a catheter attached that goes up my spinal canal and bathes my spine with pain medicine 24/7.It was a rough surgery at first since they almost killed me by overdosing me and I had to stay an extra 3 days in the hospital,it was supposed to be a 24 hour stay. Then when I got home the incision became infected so its been rough but now Im starting to get back on my feet so to speak and for the first time in over 20 years am almost completely pain free with my back. They have some adjusting to do to the pump,it needs the dosage turned up,but its MUCH better than the way I was.I was in a wheelchair whenever I went out to stores but have actually walked a little but have to build my strenght up where Ive been ambulatory for years but Im working on it.
