Gwen's Story
Life
I moved to Alabama with family after graduation and attended a technical college for computer programming. I then married in 1976 and he died 8 years later at age 40 with massive heart attack. He had two daughters by a previous marriage. They both have two children each and I claim all of them. I have a close relationship with my step-daughters and grandchildren. I then remarried after three years in 1987. My husband worked with the Tuscaloosa Fire Department for 37 years and retired two years ago. Workplace
I started with the physicians clinic as an accounts receivable bookkeepeer and data entry clerk in December of 1982 and then in November of 2002 moved to the position of Office Manager. We now have 6 practicing internal medicine physicians. We probably see approximately 120 patients every day. We do have an complex laboratory within our practice. The practice was established 40 years ago and the two oldest physicians have retired. I enjoy the medical field and have had the opportunity of learning medical coding of procedures and diagnosis. This has been an interesting career and I plan to receive certification as a medical coder.
