Gwendolyn's Story
Life
U.S. Air Force for 12 years; Now living in Arizona outside Phoenix(yeah, it's hot); married, two kids, and all the other trappings of family life...my daughter, Maya is a graduate of Arizona State University...my son Philip is working...In high school, I did a section of the mural that was between the second floor art classrooms......whassup wit chu?...
Newsflash: Getting closer to graduation! Looking at July 2008. I am so proud of myself in many ways. I am glad to be where I am right now!
Update: One more class to go! Just working thru my last field experience, a capstone class, and then I'm done! I will be so glad to never see certain faces again on a weekly basis!
I'm here to get back in touch with people. There are people here that I know and have tried to get in touch with, but to no avail and no response! I have nothing to hide from, I don't think, so I don't know what is going on. It would be nice to talk to some people about some old and some new things!
Update! Graduated November 8th! Woo-HOOO! I am so happy! Got hired right away at the Department of Economic Security. They need the help these days. Wish me luck! Not glamorous, but I need shoe coin!
High School
I didn't have much fun until my junior and senior year, when I finally came out of my shell, became my own person, and found some folks I could be lifelong friends with. There were great teachers who influence me to this day. There was drama and trauma, but hey, it was high school! Life lessons learned...
College
Got a new lease on life after a hospital stay in August, 2004, and decided to go back to school after sitting at home "recuperating" and feeling sorry for myself. I am ...Expand for more
attending University of Phoenix, working towards a bachelors degree in human services...everybody always comes to me for advice, so I may as well get paid for it! My intent is to become a youth counselor...the youngins need some guidance...
2007: Still plodding away thru my core program at the University of Phoenix! About halfway thru, and graduation seems so far away. I'm getting a lot of OJT, thanks to my continuing in a volunteer capacity at my previous field requirement location. I still go hang out with the girls at least once a week. Teenage girls are still a trip! It's very rewarding, and these girls really appreciate someone they can talk to that isn't telling them what to do every 5 minutes. I always ask them, "What do YOU want to do with your life?"
2008: Almost done! I should be marching in November!
2008: Graduated in December with a Bachelor's Degree in Human Services!
Workplace
Jack Of All Trades, Master Of None. Done a bit of a bit trying to find my niche, but I think I found it for a while and realize I may have missed my calling as an animal care giver...anyway, I'm having fun!
2009: Got hired at DES in November of 2008...got laid off in February, 2009 due to Arizona State Republican budget cuts, which created MORE people who need the services of DES...brilliant!
Military
Spent twelve years in the Air Force. That was interesting. Originally trained as an Aerospace Ground Equipment mechanic, and spent my last years in a staff assisted job at Maintenance Control. I really dug that until the powers that be decided to lower their standards and take the fun away. I don't miss being in "The War" so to speak. I did my bidness and moved on...
