Gwendolyn's Story

Life Ventura native Gwen Lawrence aka Gwendolyn Alley attended seven colleges before graduating with a double major in Environmental Studies and Literature/Creative Writing from UC Santa Cruz. For her senior thesis, she wrote a novel based on her experience of backpacking all 2800 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail. own artwork and the poetry collected in her manuscript “Desert Dances.” Currently a City of Ventura Literary Arts Fellow, she teaches writing at VC, hosts “Spoken Word Salon” the third Thursday each month at Zoey’s Café in downtown, publishes her poetry and artwork in ARTLIFE Limited Editions, and lives in Midtown with her husband Marshall (Channel Islands class of '80), her son Reed (b. 11/12/03), and her cat Marcel Duchamp.
